picking damsons

Post by albertajune »

I picked the first of our damsons yesterday and am still picking late raspberries. Such a glut of fruit this year that the freezer is getting full.
How is everyone else doing?
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

Our damsons were very early - they started very early August and finished last week.
I have made 6 pots of jam.
Not very much for 3 mature trees, but they are all quite choked with ivy which will be removed soon - hopefully it will give them a new lease of life next year.

Lots of damsons, I picked some and made 8 jars of jam, then found 7 jars from last year, so I won't pick any more for me. Our dance club has a charity bring & buy so I might take some for them.
So many Victorias ; we have 3 trees - the 40 yr old tree , the replacement tree (now 30yrs old & the tree it replaced is still going strong), the 'Czar' that wasn't (and when we realised it wasn't and got a replacement which was also a Vic, we dug it up and gave it away). A freezer full, jam made, many given away and freegled.

Apples looking good, and Brambles (which are invading uninvited).

I suppose it makes up for the failure of most of the veg.
