Any ideas what this is ?

These holes appeared on the grass between two allotments. There is no earth scattered on the top as you can see and there seems to be a tunnel.
The holes are roughly the size of a 50 pence piece and there are only the two.
We are curious .We are used to rabbits etc., but obviously not that .

Ooh most odd, looks like poles have been put in there, hope you find out what it is or someone else knows )t'

You would have thought that but there is a tunnel.

According to google it is a mouse tunnel... Good old google )like(

Very interesting as I did not know mice dug tunnels . I know nothing {rofwl}

I get the odd one or two in my huge chicken area and have seen the odd brown bottom retreating, sure it was a mouse.

Bumble bees apparently like to nest in mouse holes, so next year you may get them
too!

I think there are several possible explanations. Field voles seem the most obvious, but also birds with large beaks like woodpeckers or crows can make holes like that when digging for grubs etc.
