Nice pictures. I love long-tail tits.
I think the bird on the left of your bottom picture is a gull of some sort, the other does seem to have a longer neck so I'll believe you that it's a heron.

Great shots Richard. I got a new dslr camera for christmas too, so lots to learn. What zoom lens were you using for those pics?
I think the last is a grey heron, and a gull of some sort

Hi Karen, the Sigma 300mm.

I have on permanant loan a Sigma 150 - 500 OS Lens, only had it since yesterday.

I took these today, the Swans and Egret were about 200 meters away - very dark afternoon though.

The Great Tit was from about 20 meters.

Set on Aperture, single point focus, ISO 800.

As you know I'm new to this, but have to say that if you know your way round Photoshop or an equal to Software, it makes things a lot lot better in the end.

Great pics. The one of the bluetit especially. I was using a fuji bridge camera which was great as I was getting to grips with aperture and shutter settings, but it's been so long since I used it that I've forgotten most of what I learned. Hoping it will come back soon, and I'm going to do some of the free tutorials on the web.

I have a very old old version of photoshop (v6) and would love to upgrade but it's a bit pricey. I've used paint shop pro in the past so I guess I could use that. GIMP is supposed to be the freeware equivalent to photoshop but I've never used it. Are you using Lightroom too?

Hi Karen

I have CS3 on my laptop and Elements in the Shed.

The website is built using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3.

To be honest, what I do can do what I want to do on virtually any version. It's mainly for resizing, cropping, brightness, contrast and optimizing for web pages.
I occasionally fiddle around with effects.

I don't use Lightroom.

Don't know GIMP, I'll have a peep at that, thanks.

If you know someone who's a Student, they get Adobe Software at around a fifth of the price.

Richard

I bought Photoshop for my other laptop, but when that computer died I didn't bother buying another - on the new laptop, I wanted Microsoft Office (it was on special offer at the time) and although basic, the picture manager works well - I don't bother with colour, just contrast and mid-tone along with cropping and resizing
