My latest cakeMy latest cakeI'm just finishing Level 2 of the Cake Decorating course which I started doing last September. We have made a rose spray, bride & groom cake toppers and now a wedding cake. The finished cakes are also being taken to the Cake Exhibition at the Excel Centre in London for their show next week, here is my cake. I can't even begin to work out how many hours it's taken me to decorate it, but I think I will take a bit of a break from making sugar flowers till after Easter as I feel I've spent way too much time on them

Yes all the roses and sweet peas are made out of flower paste, most of which I make myself as I find it's just as easy to make my own. I spent 8hrs yesterday just taping the stems of all the flowers and then taping them together to make the sprays and finally fixing them on the cakes. The flowers themselves are quite time consuming, more so the roses as each rose has 11 petals on a normal sized rose and 18 on a full rose. The sweet peas were easier as they only have 3 petals on them, but the dusting took me ages! I think I cut off the top of the cake in that pic, here is how the roses are Lyn

Re: My latest cakeFabulous work Lyn. As well as being a beautiful cake, the flowers themselves are an art form and are so time consuming. Yours really are stunning and look so real.
I did a little bit of this type of work years ago for friends and family and made my daughters wedding cake, after doing a course. I still have all the equipment and books so you might just be giving me the incentive to do a bit more sugar paste work. I am now a widow and live with my memories.
Re: My latest cakeLyn you are so clever. What patience.
