baby buzzards leaving the nest

Post by kitla »

The other day I was walking the dog in our local wooded valley. There are a pair of buzzards that nest in the huge, old trees that grow alongside the brook, shading it. Suddenly a terrific buzzard shrieking started up, amongst it I could hear at least 2
baby shrieks. This went on for a couple of mins then stopped, I carried on & was
wading through the shallow brook in my wellies (as you do!) When with another
baby shriek - a tiny buzzard appeared from the top of the big tree, shot down the
corridor of the brook, right over my head. It wobbled & tilted before finding its balance
& heading into another big tree. There was a lot of calling from several big trees
around the adjoining field as the babies followed the parents out into the world.
- Fantastic!

Fantastic indeed kitla.

I know Buzzards and Sparrowhawks are killers, but not as much as we are, indirectly or directly.

Long may they live.

I was very upset this evening.

About the only time I haven't had a camera in reaching distance and a juvenile male Sparrowhawk strolled accross my front lawn.

Rushed up to get the camera but he'd gone.

What a shame! You'll have to draw a picture of it for us!!

Thank you. I'm better at Sparrows, they don't have those hooked beaks.
