Richard's trying to be sensible (Saving September)

Post by Richard »

After a somewhat silly August, I need to get to grips this month.

My plans are.....

1. When going to the Shops, take cash to approx the amount I'm going to spend and leave my Debit Card behind.

2. If going to the Co-Op, about one and a half miles away - walk or cycle.

3. Think the 'do I really need this'.

This will made slightly harder in the fact I'm house sitting at my son's for 11 days from the 14th. The chances of any food being left are zero !!!!!!

Also of course, I am not far to the City Centre down there with all those shops just screaming out for you to spend money, so..

4. Don't go into the City Centre !

5. No take aways.

I've already made one saving. I was going to watch Saints v Manchester United on the 20th. but have noticed it's on Sky - so I'm sticking at home, saving £36.

I'll keep you posted !

£36 pays for almost a tank full of petrol.

Like I said it's not so much what you're spending, it's what you're not spending :-D

If I went down to the City I'd stop and have a Coffee somewhere, so that's another £2.50 I'm not spending.

Not so much cutting down, more cutting out.

We watched the eating sensibly food programme on BBC1 last night. I did fall asleep before the end, but the amount they spent, three big shops per week, and a huge amount on takeaways! What a lazy woman. Gone the days when girls were taught to cook, sew and clean, rather than apply masses of makeup and buy convenience food before setting up home.

Our purchases are very modest (says she smugly), though I did splash out and buy a fancy belt a couple of weeks' since. The dog costs us a fair bit in insurance, but her food purchases are cheap.

I will be taking just under thirty pounds to spend on holiday, which is much more than I normally take. The days of postcards, small gifts, etc are far behind.

I find that so difficult - the answer in my case might be yes, but I remind myself that if I've managed without for this long, I can probably manage without a little longer LOL

I went down town today and kept to my word, just used cash to get what I needed.

I went to Tesco; they had the usual 'buy one get one free' on Ham - 2 pks of 5 slices for £3.
Further along the shelf there was a packet of 10 larger slices for £3 !!

Maybe this month's project has made me look harder :-D

The good news is a friend of my daughter's is a Southampton Season Ticket holder and she can't go to the Man U. game next Sunday - so I'm going instead.

'He who waits' )c(

I've done well this week. My brother came down for the day and paid for a nice Pub Lunch by the River.
I did have a drive around the Coast on Thursday but simply to do something on my own before going to Southampton for 11 days.
Having the Camper, I ate and brewed inside that, so good day out.

It's about now all my annual web site Invoices start coming in so a bit of cost there.
Unavoidable.

Beside that I purposely purchased all I need for the week on Monday and beside the Coast made an effort not to go out anywhere.
Normally I'd be in that 'just pop down and have a walk round town', sure to buy something that way.

I did change my Newsletter Hosting Company and that saved me £14 per month - easier and better to boot.

I also sold a few things on ebay.

Not a bad week.

hehe. No, I brought breakfast stuff with me and I'm eating at my daughter's every evening )t'

However, today I did go to the Shops. I needed some new Slippers and found a really comfortable pair in the Sainsbury's Clearance Store not far from my son's house.

£5 :-D :-D

I'm pleased with that.

On Friday Leo, Vicky and myself said for Christmas this year £5 each and it has to be something tacky :-D :-D

We spend enough on each other through the year, so it's good !!

I'm still working out how I did it but I'm £200 more in my Bank Account as to 30th. August.
I did have a heavy month in August though.

I've certainly saved on Petrol, my new Campervan is beating the Kia hands down.
I also did two nights more house sitting than August, so that's £50.

Where I have saved is on the smaller things such as not being able to go past a shop and buy a Kit Kat etc. plus vegetables where more has been harvested.

I also followed Ilona's favourite of shopping at Tesco's early evening to pick up the sell by date stuff.
I do it a lot but not as much as I have done in the last month.

Keep at it I guess !!
