Yesterday OH had to see a specialist with his knee. It hasn't been right since replacement nearly 2yrs ago and he has been back and forth having it looked at. His GP asked for the main consultant to see him and at last bone scans and x-rays are being done as something is definitely not right with the knee. He had to have the x-ray yesterday before seeing the consultant which had us waiting nearly 2hrs in that department. Back to the ortho clinic which was running an hour late. Just before OH's turn to go in, the consultant was called away to a clinic. Another hour wait.
My turn today. When I last went to the heart clinic the consultant wanted me to go on a new blood thinning drug and made me an appointment to chat about it to someone at the blood clinic. I researched the drug that he recommended and was absolutely against it as I bleed very easily and have had instances of profound bleeding, ie with pregnancy and surgery. There is no antidote for this new drug as there is with Warfarin which I don't want. I took along a photo of my purple leg which was the result of a hip replacement. I wanted my blood to be tested before taking any blood thinning dr-ugs which I have been trying to have done unsuccessfully for months. The consultant agreed absolutely and sent me off to have a series of blood tests done. Six phials of blood had to be taken after a 2hr wait. The result of these tests will take 4 weeks.
What I can't believe is that when I went to my GP last week to have my repeat prescription updated, the blood thinning drug was on it, even though I haven't agree to take it. This was apparently prescribed by the heart consultant.
I am thankful that I have the care, but do find it at times so frustrating.
