He..z spread

Post by Spreckly »

My Mother used to buy a spread made by He..z. It was sold in a jar, and looked like mayonnaise with different coloured bits in it. I thought it looked and tasted disgusting, but the rest of the family loved it. I think the coloured bits were some kind of very sharp pickle. Does anyone remember it, and what was in it?

Just curious.

I absolutely love it and still have it now )eat(
I think the red bits are pimento's. Green ones are probably Gherkins.

Yes, we had sandwich spread. I think mum bought it as a cheap sandwich filler. I still like it, but don't buy it now. No idea how much it is.

Certainly sounds like sandwich spread. Used to love it as a kid. Think I've only ever bought 1 jar of it as an adult though.

Currently a quid in Morrisons for a jar (£1.29 everywhere else).

More of a salad cream flavour rather than mayonnaise, I think. Had a vinegary tang to it.

Ooh I got into Sandwich Spread when I was a student - lovely in a cheese or ham sarnie!

I have never spotted it when shopping, but then I would not be buying it.
