Wanted for TV Documentary - Frugal / Thrifty Spenders

Post by Richard »

Hi

Below is the copy of an email I received today from a TV Company looking out for some people to appear in a forthcoming documentary.

Hi Richard,

I am a television producer at a production company called Boundless, part of FremantleMedia UK. We make a variety of documentaries and factual television programmes including The Truth About Your Medicine Cabinet (BBC One), An Hour to Save Your Life (BBC Two) and Grand Designs (Channel 4). I am currently developing a new documentary idea, and I was hoping this may be something you could potentially help me with.

I am looking to speak to those who are extremely thrifty with their money. I’m after people who limit what they spend and sacrifice buying luxuries because of this. Perhaps they stock up when items they’re discounted, or are experts in reusing and recycling things as to not to waste money.

I was wondering if you’d be able to send this on to anybody who may be interested, or put me in touch with anyone who comes to mind? As this idea is currently only in development, at this stage I’m just looking to speak with people and potentially film non-broadcast interviews to pitch the idea to the channel executives.

Any assistance you are able to offer would be very much appreciated.

Best Wishes,
Edd Buckley

Anyone wishing to be contacted please pm me with your current email address and I'll pass details along to Edd

Thanks,

Looks interesting, Richard, but I don't think we would qualify. Come on Ilona!

Ooohhh, I'd love to watch something like that. Not sure I'm thrifty enough to qualify to be in it though!

Not me
1. I'm less frugal than I used to be when I was 'saving for my old age'
2. Don't want to be laughed at.

Many of my frugal tricks were learnt from my parents (Dad was a low paid hospital cook). E.g. there was a pile of used matches by the gas stove and if one ring was alight a new match was not used (frugal + less pollution). But some might see that as extreme.

True Mo.

I always say that frugality and self-reliance isn't modern day 'clever', it's simply remembering how our Parents or Grandparents lived.

No credit, bank loans, mobile phones, TV sets, in many cases cars etc. etc.
You had what you had, paid cash and got on with it !!

They survived, so can we.

There should be more TV Documentaries about the Home Front and those following WW2.

I'm not photogenic enough for TV :)

And I am frugal so I can spend on luxuries and buy essential "stuff", like robotic vacuums! :)

I used to do that with the matches as well when I had a gas stove. Got blinking electric at Natalie, definitely not keen on cooking with it. Did love my mini oven in sussex though.

Agree with you Richard, would love to see more home front programmes on television.

My gas lights automatically now, but I did. No sense using more of that nasty phosphorus than you need

Think I must be more frugal than I thought. I have those long matches to light my wood burner but if it lights qiuckly and all the match isn't used I save it for next time and light it from the gas ring >dum<
I love those Homefront programmes about WW2 as well, I think a lot of people probably see it more romanticised than it actual was though!

We had "spills" at home, and though we had electric in the village, used the spill for the fires. In the caravan somewhere I have some wax tapers, but can never find them.

)ot: I watched Kevin McCloud's Grand Designs last night, love his programmes, no-one presents building type programmes as well as Kev does. The house last night was amazing, and the couple used tiles made from milk bottle tops. They looked just like grey slates.

I agree spreckers, recycling is all part and parcel, often overlooked.

Ilona does well with the things she makes for the Village Stalls etc.
