When we lived in Ripon, there was a small tobacconist/fancy goods shop which sold spills, but that was over ten years since. I have had a quick look on the internet, and they are still available!

One of the things I used to spend Autumn making ready for Christmas presents for aunties and uncles. Spill holders. Dutch boys with big pockets in their trousers to hold the spills. Made of felt, like a picture, not like these. The spills were coloured wood. Don't know if they were ever used.
I think we might have used spills to light the gas poker. Not me though - I wasn't allowed to touch it.

Not heard anything back from Mr Buckley, I'm not surprised. I have since been speaking to another chappie doing some research for a BBC programme. It was on the cards to do some filming, but he cancelled. Don't know if he will get back to me and re book it. I won't hold my breath.
