Can you grow caraway and dill for seed, successfully?

Post by Annemieke »

Has anyone grown these successfully? The dill leaves were nice while they lasted, I added them to my sandwiches. But the seeds don't taste very good. I harvested most of them when they were ready (black) and dry. Caraway ditto. Maybe, in the case of caraway, the tiny threads attached to them don't help, though I can't see how to get those off.
Is it me, the year, or the (South) English climate?
I have successfully grown coriander: the seeds smell lovely when ground, as opposed to those other two.
Thank you!

It's not something I grow but I can't see why it can't be grown successfully as we have the ideal climate (they belong to the "carrot" family) As for dill seeds - I don't think you eat them (I could be proved wrong - I've always seen dill leaves as something that goes with fish dishes) but caraway seed cake is well known (I imagine it smells aniseedy) How to remove the stalk bits - maybe run the seeds inside say a metal sieve might just be abbrasive enough to break them off?
