Said goodbye to 'Big Ron'

Post by Richard »

Had a Vet appointment this morning which I timed knowing he would be around for food early morning as always, but he didn't.
After searching the gardens, woods and field he struggled back home soaking wet, blood and very sorry for himself.

Hearing from the Vet what he would need to go through as in Diabetes, bad teeth and his legs, just had to make that horrible decision.
Weekly appointments, further tests and possibly staying overnight a few times.

The only possible way to give him insulin would be to ensure he never went out as the timing has to be so exact - he's a very outdoor cat.

He's now in the garden next Mimi and Saffi.

Just Ginger left who's survived them all, but he's going to miss him so much.

Heartbreaking isn't it.

Yes very heart breaking.

But it was the only decision really. It is quality of life that matters.

Thank you so much everyone.

I guess for us pet lovers it's something we have to come to terms with too often, the worse part of it being that although we know it is the right decision we still find ourselves questioning and justifying it.

Big Ron has certainly been the cat with the biggest heart and character I've ever had, will miss him to bits.

For all sorts of personal and other reasons I had decided that after Ronnie and Ginger I wouldn't have any more pets, it's just accepting that this came out of the blue so quickly.
I thought Ginger would be first to say farewell, I think Ronnie would have handled that better than the other way round.

Ginger is about 16 / 17 and it will be the first time he's been the only cat here.
Because we've taken on rescue more mature cats he has seen three of them go now and I know how he spent weeks looking and whining for Mimi when she died 18 months ago.
I hope he won't go downhill himself now.

Oh dear, something we just have to accept and come to terms ith.

Thanks again for your care and support.

So sad for you Richard. Most of us pet lovers have had to do what you have had to do and know just how you are feeling right now.
As you say, when we take into our homes and hearts an animal to care for, we know that the dreaded day will probably come at some time. That doesn't make it any easier when we actually have to say goodbye and the pain can be almost unbearable and no different to losing a family loved one. That's how it has been for me anyway.
Now you have to look back on Big Ron's life with you and remember the pleasure that you got from each other. He sounds as thought he was a real little character. God Bless Big Ron. {hug} {hug}
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

So, so sorry to hear about Big Ron. He came across as a huge character whenever you wrote about him and he will obviously be much missed. A hard decision to take but a very unselfish one {hug}
