Helen's attempts

Post by p.penn »

Oh dear, I forgot all about this, but I'm glad I remembered now. :oops:

I have had a ridiculous spending January - new mobile phone, new (expensive) hoover, dentist bills....to name but a few }hairout{ So, I guess it's a good thing to collect myself and try to cut a few corners.

The first thing I need to do is sort out my house insurance and electricity. Hmm

Have you done some comparison sites? Try moneysavingexpert.com - it's got some good pointers for using them. In fact if you join their energy saving club, they sometimes get good bulk deals

When you get your home insurance (or car insurance) renewal quote do a comparison on one of these websites and then phone your own company and tell them you can get it cheaper. It's amazing how they can then offer you a lower quote }hairout{ It isn't always matched exactly but sometimes I'd rather pay an extra couple of pounds than go through all the hassle of changing!

I have been watching my speed when I drive, keeping to 60 rather than 70, to try to cut petrol costs. I have also not bought any wine this year yet. January I did a sort of 'dry jan' and I have only had alcohol 3 nights this month so far. I am hoping to cut out drinking most of the time :-D

I have had a mega fail with sock wool though. It just jumped into my internet shopping basket and pressed pay! {rofwl}

Also just had another £100+ dentist Bill, but I guess there's nothing to be done about that.

Eeek! £100 - that's not cheap. What's a little sock wool after that?!

Well, I've been good lots. No wine, no delivery curry when on the last 2 weekends I have really fancied one!

But then epic fail!!! Wool yike* I am on my last ball of sock yarn and was going to wait until March, but it's so often a case of 'now you see it, now you can't get it for love nor money'! I did buy enough to take advantage of the free postage and had a discount code, but it was still outrageously extravagant! :oops: Still, when I have finished it all, at least I will have 7 pairs of scrummy homemade socks!! +f+

Perhaps if I limit myself to making a pair a month...... )sh

Do you wear all of the socks you make, Helen, or is it a hobby? I have visions of you disappearing under a mountain of socks!! If it's a hobby, maybe you could sell some to offset the wool, or give them as presents to save buying something else?

Poeple love hand knitted socks - knit them all year and hand out at xmas for pressies, that's what I do :) And fluffly bedsocks make nice pressies too.

Freeranger - at present I only have 3 pairs (working on 4th) and yes, I wear/will wear them all. I want to replace all my shop bought socks with hand made ones. :-D

After that, who knows. I think I may make a few for pressies.
