Please name these ducks

Post by albertajune »

Every morning when I take Beau for his early walk I pass a nearby pond that has just a few pairs of water birds. I can't identify this pair although I have searched my books. I'm afraid it is a poor photo as they made it away fast when I got near them so I had to crop the picture quite a lot. The darker bird at the back has a slight greenish sheen to his neck if that helps.
A few of my neighbours who live near the pond feed them, so the birds wait near their homes for breakfast. They are really quite tame but of course I had the dog. Other regulars are a pair of Canadian geese and a pair of smaller ducks, the male having a white undertail when he swims. So lovely to see them each day.

Maybe Indian Runner ducks or dark Campbell ducks?

Thomassio kept a diary on DTL if it's worth having a look?

My SIL is a bird expert -works for a website- and says that the most pictures that people send in for identification are ducks, and the answer is usually mallard hybrid.

Poor June :-D :-D

The only all black Duck I've found is a Cayuga, Lassie could well be right with the Campbells.

There's a possibility they're Hybrids.

Google Images Dark Campbell Ducks

Other than that.......................Nigel and Nancy. )run(
