Amazing side effect to Clopidogrel

Post by Richard »

I've suffered from Migraines with Aura since I was a teenager. They went away when I was about 30 then started up again about 10 years ago -anywhere from three to twelve a week, sometimes three times in a day.
I didn't get the headache, just the zig zags and feeling exhausted for a few hours.

Early July I collapsed in the kitchen, this after a some weeks of getting double vision causing disorientation plus slight vertigo.

MRI and CT showed clotting at the back of the brain etc. etc. so, in the Consultants words, "I'll put you on Clopidogrel, will prevent you having a heart attack or stroke".
I go back in a few weeks to see him.

Anyway around the houses but I haven't had a Migraine since taking them !!
I googled this and it seems that others have noticed it as well.
It really is so good getting up and not wondering when one's going to happen and I have to stop anything I'm doing visually!
The Pharmacy rang me every week for five weeks to ask how it was going. I told them, they didn't seem that surprised.

Beside that I'm feeling better but not up to how I'd like to be, getting on a bit I guess!!!

Even a medical web site say's the same about the Migraines so I wonder why they don't prescribe it for that?

Anyone else had this medication? It's a kind of little sister to Warfarin.

Richard

PS. Not so good when I cut myself or knock something !!

Wow Richard. You did say you'd not been well - good job they are getting it sorted, hope the next appointment goes well.
Good about the side effect. I suppose it's a balance of benefit and disadvantage. Haven't the self-help groups discovered this yet and started asking for it?

Take care of you Richard {hug&kiss} , Glad to hear its relieving the migraines though... )t'

I used to take a medication for migraines , used commonly in the prevention of epileptic fits... Ive no idea what it was called, but it worked, I came off of it 10 years ago and have only had rare migraines since )t'

It is good to hear that a side effect is positive.
Usually there are a load of bad side effects, that you end up taking other tablet to compensate.
Glad that you are feeling better.
Take Care

Yes, take are Richard. Best be on the meds than risk a stroke or heart attack.

My GP recently prescribed me a low dose statin as he believes prevention is better than cure.
