Shrub indentity please

Post by albertajune »

This shrub is growing in the field opposite me but I don't think a wild plant. A neighbour has planted a piece of root in her garden and has a beautiful plant this year.
In the field it is about 4ft tall and a shrub. Below is a picture of three of it's flowers with a leaf. I have been on the web for ages trying to identify it with no luck. Just wondered if anyone here just happens to know what it is.

I took this pic about 3yrs ago and did try to find it's name then. My friend and neighbour asked me this morning if I can name it, so after forgetting about my previous search, my curiosity has once again been aroused.

It looks like some sort of vetch, June, but they are not four feet high. We've gone through our wild flower book, but can't find it. It does look pretty.

I don't know. When does it flower?
I wondered if it was related to laburnum, looked it up to see what the leaves look like. They seem similar too

More Google finds Adam’s broom laburnum
Cytisus purpureus (Purple broom).

Lots more pictures on Google.
So I'll pretend I know, and say Purple Broom.

It is in flower now and looking very lovely. The leaves do look like laburnam but for a few years has grown to about 3 to 4ft and not a tree. Like you I have been all through my garden books.but see nothing like it. So strange.. In my friends garden the flowers are more separated and upright so I will try and take a new photo..
Thanks for taking the trouble to search Mo
