Evergreen climber

Post by Spreckly »

Today OH is helping one of my sons put wire netting along his front garden railings, to keep litter out of his front drive. I did think about putting a montana clematis in a pot, to train along, but am wondering if it will look messy. Not going down the mile a minute route, but wonder if any gardeners have any advice. As above, the plant will have to be in a large pot.

Montana is another mile-a-minute once it gets established. Mine is on a garage wall so needs a firm hand to keep it out of the gutter. I think it would be OK on a fence if clipped back once or twice a year. If you leave it too long the way it grows and tangles you don't know if you are clipping something that half the plant comes from.

Thanks Mo. We have recently put one to disguise our oil tank, and it has grown well. I'm not sure if it is evergreen though.

You know, I couldn't remember whether mine has leaves in winter. According tothe RHS they are deciduous. The twigs would make quite a screen though.
