Just a bit of advise please..

I'v been googling about my hen Dora and I think I'v found out what might be bothering her.
Only problem is the cure involves bathing her in flowers of solphure which I can only get in powder form. So do I add to warm water like salts ????

Any advise please

Thank you in advance >fi<

Hello

I'm new to down the lane but have registered because I knwo there's good advice available to amateurs like me. One of my chickens is not well. They are young Polands (8 weeks old max) and one of them is hardly eating (even mealworms which they love), is very listless, and more worringly has blood in coming out of her back end - I'm not sure if it's in her faeces or not.
We've given her olive oil in case it was a compacted crop, given her water and food and taken her away from the rest.

Can anyone advise please.

I doesn't sound as if it is something that can be easily sorted by non-experts at long distance.
I know a vet consultation will cost you more than you paid for the hen, but that would seem like the best option.

Sounds like Coccidiosis the blood in the droppings would suggest this...

You will need Coxoid for all of your birds ...treat them all at he same time..... )t'

If you're not confident then of course you should get the sick one to a vet but I feel this will be the diagnosis.

Having read the helpful posts here, I am pretty sure Lulu the Legbar is poorly. Initially I thought her slowness was her age - she is almost seven - but am now not sure. She keeps to herself, she sometimes sits on the bottom of the henhouse and only moves if "pushed" and she no longer runs away from me. Generally, I cannot get anywhere near the Legbars because they are so daft and flighty, but she walked next to me today and hardly bothered when I stroked her back. She also looks hunched up and "fatter" than usual. I am still getting the odd blue egg, but it may be Lillian who is laying and not Lulu. Any ideas anyone? I am a tad worried about her now. Many thanks.

Ooh you have a Woo, thats what we call that breed on the diaries :-D have you felt her underneath? Does she feel full or squidgy? She may be having egg problems? I hope Wendy or Manda will spot this post as they are super at ailments. Can you take her to the vets ?

Hi , she is a very good age , that maybe the problem . No cure for getting old .
Vets can check her out .
Best advise I can give having been here many times is to give her as much attention make sure she gets fed and water every day .
If she is still having a quality life then that could be all you can ask for.
Well done for managing to keep a hen for so long .
Proves you are and have done the right things for them .
As for Woo`s , they certainly do give you a run around .
Please let us all know how you get on .
Good stories are encouraging , sad endings just mean that we all suffer the same and we can feel for you as well.

Sadly Lulu got much worse and I took her to the vet and had to have her euthanised. By the time we got there, she could hardly move and was really struggling. Felt bad for leaving her, but she deteriorated very quickly.

Thanks for help all.
