George.George.Well I have been asked to take on another little one.
I still have my 4 girls, sadly. Both Missy and Hope have been reserved, but then cancelled as the people either were not able to cope with them. Or the staff didn't think they would be able. Such a shame. Valentina and Missy are really 'there' not lot more I can do with them, in fact one of the staff said Valentina was now awesome, so don't really need me. I will cut their time down and give time to George. He is 4 years old and a horror with other dogs. He has been rehomed twice, with a muzzle. Both times owners haven't put it on and he bit another dog so bought him back. Apparently he screams when he sees another dog, so two couples who liked him didn't continue. I can only see what I can do. Today it is just taking him away from the kennels and getting to know the little fellow. I stopped this nonsense with Sally. Hopefully we can make his feel less stressed around other dogs. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

I had one myself - Drake, and a bear called Teddy. Teddy was the naughty one, Drake my favourite. Work your magic on George, Wendy. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html

A merry little soul, as the standard says...............until he sees or even hears another dog, or any noise whatsoever !.. I think he has lost all faith in people, so he feels he has to handle things himself. It is now a case, or making he realise, actually I can take care of this, you just be a dog. I had him for an hour today, not seeing any of the others but they will manage. He was horrible when we left the kennel. But coming back, he didn't make a noise once. Would dearly have loved to but he did manage a little self control. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

Re: George.I wish you luck and success with your latest challenge, you obviously have a natural talent for helping these dogs overcome their issues. Training their prospective new owners must be an experience as well!!!

Re: George. That's where they fall down Trev.
I have only met one couple and Sammy, was a little ugger like George. But after our talk they took him and we have heard they are still delighted with him and that is 18 months on. Other than that one. I don't meet them http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

Re: George.Perhaps they ought to offer a few sessions with you to the prospective new owners Wendy, that way you could help both owners and dogs acclimatise to each other, and give the owners some sneaky training as well. If you would agree, of course! Either before adoption, or as aftercare. Might help to keep the dogs in their new homes. You do such a wonderful job with them

They do have a behaviourist, who goes round the 4 centres. Can't say I have ever seen him with a dog and staff say he doesn't have a lot of input. I am a volunteer so don't want to tread on anyone's toes. Just try to do my bit, quietly and consistently and, hope, to get results http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

If you've put all this time into rehabilitating the dogs it would make sense. At least mention it (how frustrating it is when one comes back) Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html

I don't rock the boat. The only times I put my head above the parapet, is if I feel something detrimental is happening to a dog. I have had Missy moved and Sammy before, as they were in the wrong kennels. If they ask I will try to do it. I am afraid a lot of people 'in' rescue think they know best. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

Mo's idea is great but I understand what you mean about rocking the boat, in the end you an only do what you are able and heaven forbid you wouldn't be able to look after the dogs.

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: George.Had him for a hour again today. So that is 3 days, 3 hours.
Today I felt there was some success. He screams if he even hears another dog Kennels are a good place for him to live eh ? We see a dog in the distance, but he started. So I moved further away and managed to get him to focus on me { Yay } I have been training this over the 3 days, and he stopped. Loads of treats. After that two more came and walked around the field, possibly a little nearer and he didn't make a sound. He was rewarded if he even looked and didn't bark. I don't usually go in on a Sunday as it is family day for me. But I will pop by on the way home from visiting my son. Trying to keep continuity. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
