Salt and Vinegar for fast relief !

Post by Richard »

I don't know how I did it or what did it, but I lost some skin on my ankle.
Looked like a bite but could have been a thorn.
I spent Saturday night with sharp strong burning / stinging on the wound.
I put Germoline, no good, then P whatever number it is, nothing.

I googled and tried salt, vinegar (I used White Wine Vinegar), mixed it up with some warm water and dabbed it on.
I repeated two hours later and all was well.

Any other tips for home remedies for small wounds, bites, cuts and grazes etc?

Rakia aka Rakija - Bulgarians living in most villages make and distill their rakija from almost anything!! It is nothing like the chemical product you can buy in the shops. They use it for everything from an antiseptic wash for flushing and washing wounds, to rubbing a small amount on any insect bite or rash to ease the irritation, when cooking and preserving (we experimented using in in fruit compotes, lovely in the middle of a freezing winter) and (obviously) for drinking.

It is a bit like the WD40 of the alcohol world :-D

Interesting Richard. I swear by the old fashioned germolene, not the stuff you get nowadays. I have two tubes of the old wonderful smelling stuff. OH used some on a cut last night.

I read yesterday that somebody's Mum used a vinegar scrub for his Impetigo. Ow, ow ow, ow, OW!

Have used it for wasp stings but, frankly, it's rubbish!

Cuts - salt or sugar. Sore throats - honey and brandy gargle. You'd think in Scotland I might have taken a wee dram of the old liquid gold, but urgh!

I thought this was going to be about potato crisps. I prefer cheese and onion myself. :-D
