Looking for ex-batts

Post by Bluefinch »

I am thinking of having some chickens again having lost my two last year to the fox. I have contacted a couple of places near me but they won't have any hens until at least mid June. Is there somewhere I can find out about ex-battery hens in my area (South Devon). Have tried googling but not coming up with anything. Also thinking of perhaps a rescue dog which might keep the fox away. I miss having a dog around.

Good luck with the ex-bats and the rescue dog. Sounds like you are going to have some exciting times ahead. Hope all goes well.

Hi Sandy , If you get stuck with a couple of girls , take them home and I will come and collect them . Do not fret though , I have space for 4 now due to the losses |I have had recently .
Obviously If the girls all get homes I will not get to worried .

I have found some a bit nearer to me. I will pick them up tomorrow morning. How long do you think I should keep them in the run before letting them out?

So pleased to be rescuing some. Thought I would start off with four.

I would personally keep them in the run for a week and then they should be fine. Good on you for giving a home to 4 girls. Lots of luck with them and let us know how you go on. )like(

Thanks CC. The run isn't very big but if they have been in cages it will be lot bigger than they are used to. Will go and stock up on food and straw now.
