dog vomiting

Post by amber66 »

Hello I hope you can give me some advice please.
I have a 5 year old Lab who has kept eating grass for the last 3 days and then is very sick.
I have put her on just plain rice for today hoping that may help but she has been sick yet again.
She seems fine in herself and wants to eat but it is not staying down. I can't get a vets appointment until tomorrow so was wondering if there is anything i can do to help her in the mean time.
Many thanks.
Amber.

Is she eating and pooping ?

If she is it maybe a bug.
Vets are the best ones to see.

poor doggy. Yes her poop could give clues to her problem. I'd say make sure she's drinking & get her to the vet asap.

Thank you Wendy and Kitla for your replies. She is eating but i don't think she has pooped today.
She is booked to see the vet in the morning.

It may be a blockage then.
So you are doing the right thing taking her.

How is your dog today, Amber?
From what I hear about Labs they eat anything, although not had personal experience of one.

Hello Gwenoakes.
Thank you for asking.
The vet thinks she may have a tummy bug. She gave her an anti sickness injection that lasts for 12 hours. She does seem better but is back for a follow up appointment on Friday morning.
I am to keep her on rice and chicken for a week.

Well if she is bringing it up, nothing is going through.
Just be aware though, if nothing again today, maybe speak to the vet again

Hi Amber, hope your poorly dog goes on OK. They do tend to pick up things now and again. We had a terrier for 16 years who always got sick in the autumn and spring. Vet just put it down to change in the seasons as he could not find anything else wrong with him. Good luck when you take him back to the vets and let us know how you go on.

A couple of ideas. I used to walk my friends choc lab, were were walking along the edge of a field, dog loose. When I called him I saw there was something hanging out of his mouth. Oh yuk, the top half of a rabbits head with ears hanging out. I managed to get hold of him and pull it out. I nearly vomited myself.

My other friend has a Irish Setter, they walk him every day in the woods. He started being sick, couldn't keep anything down, becoming lethargic. Emergency dash to the vet for xray. He had been picking up twigs and eating them, his intestines had a mass of chewed wood causing a blockage, nothing going through. Luckily caught in time, a very expensive operation to remove it all. He survived and now wears a muzzle in the woods.

As Wendy says, back to the vet.

Thank you all again.
Sable has finally been for a poop and it looks normal. She is eating ok just rice chicken mixed with some warm Bovril (vets idea) and has not wanted to eat grass or been sick at all today.
Back to the vets for a check up in the morning but i think she is on the mend, fingers crossed. They do worry you don't they!
