RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018
RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Just to let you all know RSPB Garden bird watch is the weekend of 27-29th January.
It might be interesting for those of us who do it to also log our sightings on here, as well as the area you live to see the different birds we all get in our gardens.
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Great idea

Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018My pack has arrived so must do some reading as never done this before.
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Well done Grannyof4 for signing up to this. You basically just watch your garden (or park) for one hour over that weekend & log the species & how many you see at one go (not in total as they may be the same birds coming back & forth). It also asks a bit about your garden & other wildlife you have visiting. Worth doing. If you get addicted to it you can also join BTO Garden Bird watch for £17 a year which is where you log the birds (& other wildlife) every day & fill in the form each week. It gives a good overview of trends in gardens.
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Don't forget its this weekend folks!!! Hope you've got plenty of bird food!!
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018I would've liked to have done this but unfortunately with the bird flu prevention zone, I've had to stop feeding my little birds which I feel gutted about

Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Karen, as Mo said you can still count them & I think you can even log if you don't see any because that is still useful info for them.
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018It was a fun hour trying to count birds. Why don't they keep still!
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Bit late to post my results but here goes! I would be interested to see what others saw (I am in South Warwickshire).
House Sparrow x 8 Greenfinch x 1 Goldfinch x 33 Dunnock x 2 Collared Dove x 3 Chaffinch x 7 Blue Tit x 3 Blackbird x 4 Long Tailed Tit x 3 Robin x 1 Starling x 5 Wood Pigeon x 1 Wren x 1 Jackdaw x 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker x 1 Blackcap x 1 The surprise was the GS Woodpecker, we only really see them 3 or 4 times a year! Blackcap is a female that has been with us all winter.
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Didn't keep a note of the numbers but; various tits, robins, sparrows, pigeons, magpie, my GS woodpecker, blackbirds (male and female) and just before the end of the hour all the little birds vanished and sparrow hawk put in an appearance.
Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018Good for you to see a Blackcap Wildlifemad
No Chaffinches appeared here when they're supposed to ! Usually only 2 or 3 turn up though.. House Sparrows x 10 Dunnocks x 6 Great Spotted Woodpecker x 2 (one male, one female) Great Tits x 10 Blue Tits x 12 Coal Tits x 4 Long Tailed Tits x 3 Robins x 4 Goldfinch x 1 Blackbird x 4 Starling x 1 Chiffchaff x 1 Collared Dove x 2 Jay x 1 Magpies x 2 Male Pheasant x 2 Female Pheasant x 1 As an extra, around and about the Lane we're inundated with Blackbirds and Long Tailed Tits. I did mine late as I was in Southampton on that weekend. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
