Black Fly

Post by Richard »

Any other green methods of ridding them?

They're mainly congregated in the Broad Beans.

We sowed Nasturtians close by, but they're not up and running yet. I've tried washing up liquid in previous years and not had much luck.
The Nettle spray works reasonably well, but not 100%

Do you have any other ways?

I've only just seen this.

My gardening books recommend pinching out the growing points of broad beans, as that's whar they like best.

Any of the following essential oils are recommended Lavender, Tagetes, Tansy.
4-8 drops in a dilution of 4 litres of water.
Can plant tagetes around or sprinkle crushed ones around.
White fly is the same as above but also Sage oil/plants.
Best of luck

Thanks, I'll give those a whirl.

As it happens, they don't appear to be so bad this year and the broad beans are doing nicely, but I'll certainly try as soon as the little blighters re-appear......

Which they will !!
