Oh you lucky thing! I've got my eye on some growing in a garden down the road - I'm going to have to go and ask if they are going to use them :-D

Try Googling "quince recipe", I came up with these:

I love quince jelly )c+

I am very lucky in so far as I look after the big house opposite. Although it's 27 rooms, it's a weekend house and they're not too interested in their fruit garden, allowing me free access to......
Plums, Medlars, Apples, Hazelnut, Pears, Cobnut, Walnut and Quince!!

Now Quince is my absolute favourite Jam - no two ways - delicious!

We usually make Quince Jam mixed with Apple as a pectin substitute.
We also mix it with other fruits for Crumbles.

Only last night we had Apple, Pear and Quince Crumble (I like it with Ice Cream!).

Mmmm, I can smell them from here!!

I thought we'd already had a quince thread, but I can't find it. I'm sure I said that I don't like the taste of quince jelly.

My daughter has moved into a house with a medlar tree, suspect we wouldn't like that either. (If they were nice everyone would grow them)

Medlar is an 'olde englishe' fruit and can be used much the same as any other fruit.
Bit like Crabapple in so far as being a more fragile thing to cook etc.

It has a very acquired taste, quite bitter.

You pick the fruits when they look as if they're past it, soft and squelchy.

Woth having a search round on it though. Don't want to give anyone the screaming ab-jabs !!!
