By comparing some of the photo's on the left to the first entry, the garden has been 'developing' quite well over the past 4 wet and sunny weeks.

The only major problem encountered has been the young carrot, beetroot and spring onion seedlings have all been taken by mice - and all in one night at that !

Also, the recent very wet weather has made the slugs extremely thrifty and they've been attacking almost anything they meet, with the exception of weeds of course.

This came at a very bad time as the bad weather coincided with the end of a 5 day cricket run and going to Southampton. It's amazing what can happen in that short space of time.

Therefore I have had to resow all the vegetables eaten by the mice and have surrounded the runner beans and potatoes with gravel and two year old soot.

Most of the tomato plants have been planted out in the greenhouse. We strengthened up the soil with some compost from the plastic bin. I was surprised that some of the materials in the bin had not completely rotted down even though the bin has been there for over 12 months.

During the next two weeks we shall be planting out the courgettes, Squash, Cabbages and Sweet Corn. By the next entry, just about everything will be in position.

Weed wise it's not too bad but, where for the last 6 years or so, the patch has been a haven for creeping buttercups, it's now the turn of the thistle.
Luckily the wet weather has made these easier to dig out whole, but I'm impressed with their reproduction abilities !
