John O'Groats to Lands End

Follow me down the Lanes !

John O'Groats to Lands End by Bike, June 2011

General Info & how to follow the ride day by day

Leave Ashford Sunday 19th. June, Arrive Inverness Mon 20th at 0845, catch Train to Thurso and cycle to Castletown Hotel.

Tuesday 21st. June. Cycle to John O'Groats and start approx 1300hrs.

The Route

John O'Groats > Wick > Helmsdale > Alness > Loch Ness > Glencoe > Loch Lomond > Glasgow > Lockerbie > Gretna > Carlisle > Shap > Preston > Wigan > Whitchurch > Shrewsbury > Bromyard > Gloucester > Bristol > Taunton > Crediton > Okehampton > Launceston > Redruth > Penzanze > Lands End

Due to not having as much training as first planned, I'm taking it easy through Scotland and averaging only around 40 miles a day. After Glasgow I'm hoping it's all just 'another day' and I start generating a bit more speed and distance.

Finish Date

That;s even a mystery to me!! (I'm looking at around 22 days from start, but if I hurt, I go slower!)

Where I'm staying

After deciding that for an extra few £'s, rather than stay at Hostels, I'd have B&B's where I can get a room to myself and a hearty breakfast to get me on my way.

How to follow me day by day

I shall have my Netbook and Dongle with me (I haven't tried it stuck six feet up a Privet Hedge yet!) so I will be up-dating daily, subject to signal etc., in the Forum - Facebook and Twitter

See the Donations Page for details on how you can donate to two very worthwhile causes; Demelza Childrens Hospice and / or Fresh Start for Hens for re-homing of Battery Hens

Will I do it?

Well, I'm 63, doing it alone with no support, so it's an adventure, a challenge and something to hopefully encourage others to do the same.

The answer is YES !

If I read the maps right - 970 miles!

Anywhere between 21 and a lot more days!

And thanks to Kent County Cricket Club for letting me have the time off to do it
