Re: Anyone her had success with 'bug hotels'?

it's possible not a lot will happen for a while - bugs will be out and about feeding on other bugs at this moment, bees and so on may already have nested elsewhere. Gradually beasties may visit and take residence but it might only start to come into its own in autumn when they all start looking for ...

Re: New Photography Thread.

Maybe you need to paste the link inbetween the "[img]xxx[ /img]" (it's the button with the picture of a photo between the asterisk and chain link)?

Re: New Photography Thread.

So what did you do Ilona? To get the picture on the page. it's possibly a right click of the mouse on a photo and copy the link and then paste. You can do this with FB photos BUT, there is a time out after a few weeks and then the image disappears (I posted loads in the my gardening thread (and Luc...

Re: New Photography Thread.

)reap( Looks quite atmospheric with the gravestones and the bare branches of the tree highlighted with the flash You are more advanced than me with this photography lark, LL thank you but actually {warn} it was just clever photography software (shame it was on the laptop that died - too expensive to...

https://images2.imgbox.com/d4/07/2IdtrYCw_o.gif This photo was taken on Malvern Hills (2011? while on a camping trip) I had got up early to walk up to the iron age fort British Camp with my old dog Pepper, and we were taking a breather on a bench when I was struck by the clouds and bright sunlight ...

Re: New Photography Thread.

https://images2.imgbox.com/73/6f/qrLXFvI9_o.jpg This is an old photo of a close up of liverwort growing on the soil surface of a plant pot. I used a combination of extension tubes and close-up filters fitted on to a standard camera lens (which I mentioned in the Any new hobbies? topic) and then cro...

Re: New Photography Thread.

)t' wow - love how the steam clouds from the power station cross over and the sun rays are spread out. The horizon and power lines (are there also wind turbines?) in silhouette really add to the photo. I think it'd make a great photo on the topic of energy (sun, wind, coal)

Re: any new hobbies?

I like to play around with close ups but don't have a special lens for that. If ever interested in going down that road, it will depend on what sort of camera you've got and whether you can screw on filters to the lens (you should be able to see a fine screw thread on the inside of the ring where y...

Re: any new hobbies?

That was easy enough. I had forgotten how to post pictures here. Maybe I ought to start a photography thread. )t' ilona I'm very impressed - I love the contours of the foreground with the trees in the background. I like the idea of a photography thread. My interests are close ups - normally I make ...

Re: any new hobbies?

I haven't started any new hobbies but recently have been digging into my family history again and tried to find the people missing in my earlier searches. I posted in the Family history result topic about my 4x ggrandfather Alexander Stewart (Scottish ancestor) on the 7th April. Since then I finally...

Algae 2 update + some Busy Lizzies

On Wednesday I made up some more 2L (pop) bottles with water and added a dash of dried blood and a pinch of Phostrogen (all purpose plant feed) and seeded them with the most actively growing culture of algae and then popped the bottles outside. Some were lined up behind the deep pots with the aspara...

Re: Lucas

A bit of warm weather and my cat quickly decides he prefers sleeping outdoors during the day now - very much what he did all last summer so I don't see him as much these days. I know where he spends the day because come feeding time (and I tap the bowl on the edge of the kitchen work top which he ob...

Wednesday 2nd June 2021

The past couple of days have been pleasantly warm, yesterday slightly warmer than the Bank Holiday Monday but today ... was too hot. Lucas has decided his breakfast time is when the dawn chorus is out which at this time of year, is now before 4.00 am - he reaches up from the floor level on to the be...
