Re: Compo's matchbox!

I've had an idea, but I'm going to have to poke around the charity shops. He once fed it with bread and salt! )j;

Re: Anyone remember

There was always Heinz tinned spaghetti in tomato sauce, I still buy it occasionally. But would we have called it pasta?

Re: Dustbin diving!

Do you mean Julian Gummage? He dissapeared, I hoped for a ransom note but never saw him again. His replacement was destroyed along with my neighbour's little area where we had BBQs. There are some very strange people on that riverside walk! It cost the next door landlord £2500 to sort out our other ...

Re: Compo's matchbox!

Compo had matchbox which he slid open to show someone, usually a lady in a pub, when they looked, they usually looked terrified and screamed!
No one ever discovered what was in the matchbox and that it went to his grave with him! yike*

Compo's matchbox!

Must be in the fun category; I'm a huge fan of Last of the Summer Wine, I follow one of their FB pages, and have all the DVDs including First of the Summer Wine. Sad I know, I have a mini pair of wellies, but I need suggestions (keep it clean)for something terrifyingly gruesome to put in a matchbox....

Re: Dustbin diving!

Hi Gwenoakes, I mustn't complain but I gave up my allotment early this year as I was in and out of hospital just at the wrong time. It was covered in weeds, so sooner than receiving letters from the committee I let someone else have it. I pay a fiver a year for a key, so I can still go for a natter.

Dustbin diving!

Where I live we have black and grey bins in two separate areas used by thirty odd flats. I can see one lot of bins from my window. A couple of chaps turn up on a regular basis to rummage through the bins for old clothes and anything that can be turned into cash. They never make a mess and are known ...

Re: Sweet potatoes

Just taken a pic of my sweets so far. I've managed thirteen plants from two sweet potatoes; perhaps I might have had more with more patience!

Re: Sweet potatoes

I'm informed they should have been started at the end of November, There's more than one way. You can cut them in half length ways and use compost, but I had some success with avocado, so I put them point down in water as you see. Roots will appear (I was warned that supermarket varieties are spraye...

Sweet potatoes

My friends on Facebook tell me I Should have started this two months ago, but I'll try anyway. I put them in water on the 10th February, and they'd sprouted shoots within four days. The roots are now growing fast. I have a space for them prepared on the polytunnel floor! http://i406.photobucket.com/...

Re: Boiling vinegar.

Having delved a bit deeper, it seems that early vinegar had microbe called a vinegar eel among other nasties. These bugs are no longer present in modern vinegar, so I'm not going to stink the place out boiling the stuff!

Boiling vinegar.

I like to have a small jar of pickled onions on my shelf so that I can munch them fairly fresh and do another jar to follow. I use sarsons white spirit vinegar straight on to the onions. My sister insists that the vinegar must be boiled. When I asked why, she said it was mother's way and she had alw...
