Re: Help Guys please!

My Light Sussex boy is just over a year old now, and does seem to be settling into a routine. None of the hens, large or bantam, seem to enjoy his rather 'brace yourself, dear' approach. But they all have learned to either grin and bear it od get out of his way. (Stiff upper beak?!) None of the ladi...

Re: I don't understand!

The only thing I can think of is that maybe you are giving them crushed up eggshells in their food without baking them first?

It has to do with soluble/insoluble calcium. If you don't bake the shells, the chooks can't get what they need out of them.

Just a thought )w(

Re: TRYING AGAIN!

Perhaps 'disrupt' was the wrong word, Al. {warn}

But it still had to be done, and sooner rather than later. :?

And I still don't like myself, so I'll just have to have ANOTHER glass of wine! :oops:

Re: TRYING AGAIN!

Steve: When they are that big, buff sussex are HUGE!!!!! I think I would physically be incapable of actually doing it efficiently. My light sussex cockerel's head is almost at my waist. Add the strength of a healthy bird .... Well I didn't think I could do it! Also the boys were starting to disrupt ...

BOYS OR GIRLS?

Does anyone have any experience of buff sussex babies? Of my 5 week-old babies, 2 are darker and one of them has a stripe on his head. They are the feistier ones and also seem a teeny bit bigger than the others. So I'm thinking 2 boys and the rest girls. Anyone got any ideas? http://www.backyardchic...

Look out for the signs of the next stage: Lotsachickenitis. Typical symptoms include broody hens, day-old chicks and heart-wrenching stories from friends about how they will have to get rid of their birds... yike* :b( )c(
