Re: Dirty veg

How we ended up to the current situation is down to several factors Hi Lancashire Lass - you make some excellent points. Compared with many other countries, in the UK our food chain is totally controlled by the big supermarkets not from the top, i.e. the producers. They are the ones that do the dic...

Dirty veg

Out here in Thailand, there are just a two or three supermarkets where you can buy the sort of produce we are used to in the west. However, if we do ever shop at one of these, Makro for example, the veg comes pre-washed and wrapped in plastic. As a result, we mainly shop at our local market and if w...

Re: Have you stopped using your oven?

I'll see if I actually wrote down the recipe for Christmas bread down when I get back to UK and post it here if I do find it.

Re: Have you stopped using your oven?

Kozunak bread I had never heard of Kozunak bread before and had to Google it. I can see it a very enriched dough bread that sounds amazing and I will certainly have a go at making it when we get back to UK. It reminds me of 'Christmas Bread' I make from time to time. Here's a link to a post and a p...

Re: Have you stopped using your oven?

Lancashire Lass, Speckly, You both seem to back up my point that these appliances are good - if you use them on a regular basis. I guess many who are struggling with sky high food prices either can't afford the upfront cost of these things or even if they get them don't know/don't use them. Speckly,...

Have you stopped using your oven?

Back in our UK home, we have the typical family style kitchen oven. It is large, takes a while to heat up and therefore in this day and age is expensive to run. Here in Thailand, like most homes, we don't have an oven in our kitchen. Like Indian food, most Thai food is cooked on the stove top or gri...

Re: Good Old TV Comedy

Yes indeed.

There are some that don't age. Dad's Army, Only Fools and Horses and Black Adder are other timeless series.

Not sure how I feel about the proposed new Faulty Towers series.

Hi Trev,

We are in Thailand until end of April, as we spend the winter here. Won't be Spring until I get back to beekeeping but will let you know.

Re: The Bumbling Keeper of Bees

I would really like to make a top-bar hive this summer and see if this would work for my bees.

They look easy enough to make .There are lots of Youtube videos and information on the internet about top-bar hives.

Re: Air Fryers - anyone use one?

I recently listened to a BBC pod cast about air fryers. The series is called 'Sliced Bread' where they look at claims that are either the best thing since sliced bread, SB or the proverbial BS. Anyway the up shot was they thought that cooking things like crispy chicken in an air fryer was better tha...

Re: Homeade Bread

I'm going to have a go. I have a breadmaker somewhere in a dusty corner but its a pain to clean so I'd rather do it without. I was hoping if its fairly easy I could make some every week. Any recommendations or tips for making it easy or more tasty? I make bread every few days but not in a breadmake...

Re: Unbelievable

I think our health care system has become increasingly frustrating, especially under Covid. That said, we certainly don't want a health care system like in the USA.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Re: Compostable Food Bags

I am puzzled by 'waste food collection'. What exactly can you put in this?

We have a garden waste collection. I put potato peelings and uncooked veg scraps in this - in other words anything I would personally compost.

Have we lost our connection with food?

It strikes me that we live in an age where many if most have lost their connection with food. I know expats here in Thailand who practically never cook, they either dine out or order in take a ways. As a result my guess would be they really have no idea what's in the food they eat. In developed coun...
