When chickens turn on another....

We have a flock of 7 hens who, since 2 newbies were introduced just over 2 months ago, have been living in harmony...... However, about 4 days ago, my top hen Matilda (a bluebelle), who has been going through a severe moult, suddenly turned on my eldest hen (DJ cluck who is an ex-batt who has been o...

Re: H4H sponsor quick catch up

It's my daughter, Elsie's birthday today Waiting for her this morning amongst her messages were two cards; one from Minnie and one from Limpy, both with personal messages to her and an update on how they are. She was absolutely thrilled. Thanks for the cards which arrived yesterday so she could open...

Re: Gone !

I've read all 6 too.... Love the series. It helps having teenagers who read avidly as they tip me off to the best reads.... This series is my 14 year old daughters best so far which is high praise as she reads about 6 books a month.. If you're after more teen fiction which are good quick reads, I'd ...

Re: Frankie

This is the only drama I'm watching at the moment, albeit on Iplayer when I get a spare hour....! I absolutely love it. The writing is fantastic, the acting first rate and the storylines are finding just the right balance..... I guess it's striking a chord with me as my Dad is my Mums 24 hour carer ...

Re: Advice needed - head shaking

hi,I know this might sound odd but have you checked her feet? I've just logged on for any info on bumblefoot which my silver sussex has and saw your post. Val as she's called shakes her head but will eat and drink normally but then goes and hides on her own and looks sleeepy and will shake her head...

Re: Would anyone like to sponsor an ex batt ?

It took my daughter a while to choose, but she's gone for Minnie. I think she may well be back again when she's sold a few more eggs to sponsor Limpy as his story really touched her as well. Will send you pm with details......

That's fantastic news Hope she's had a good day today & continues to improve .... Thank you! Has your girl stopped the head shaking yet? Dipper still does it a little bit, but nowhere near as much as she did a couple of days ago! She still shakes her head but I think she's doing it less.... I s...

Re: Would anyone like to sponsor an ex batt ?

What a fantastic idea. We'll sponsor at least one. I'll talk to kids tomorrow and see which one they'd like.... I'll pm you when they've chosen... It's always good to hear about people who go that extra mile for creatures and its lovely to think we'd play a small part in their good work. Good luck a...

Re: Luna's Ladies

Hi Linda Matilda's foot improved with the daily bathing, so I decided to stop about 5 days ago. However, today it looked a bit pink again, so I'll restart her spa treatments on the feet. The new girls are settling in ok, although Belle does shake her head a lot. I did post in bird health, so won't r...

Re: Advice needed - head shaking

It could be that she just disagrees with eveything the other hens are saying Dom That's all I need... an opinionated hen! Luna, my Vet stood Dipper on the floor to see how her balance was. She didn't walk much, but stood perfectly still on just one leg without any balance issues. That's why she thi...

Why get rid of eggs? I thought they were safe to eat when treating with flubenvet? Oh, hang on, do you mean gapeworm eggs? Think I'm getting confused.....

Re: Advice needed - head shaking

Well, I think I've read about every post on every forum about head shaking in hens..... Of course, the more info you read, the more confusing it gets!! My latest thoughts are..... I don't think it's an ear infection as there is no gunk coming from the ears, they are normal sized and not inflamed and...

Re: I am sure there's something wrong!

I've been looking out to see how your little hen is this morning...... That's interesting that the vet thinks it's gapeworm. Let us know how she responds to treatment - do you know what wormer the vet used? Having read every post going about head shaking last night, I thought that worms seemed to be...
