Also when you give them calcium boosts (you mentioned fish etc) to help with re-feathering during the moult, give them flax, watermelon or sesame seeds too. Re: STORM WARNING!!!!!Seemed to be very hit and miss, even in the same county. Up here in Yorkshire it's been raining since yesterday (my chickens are not best pleased) and is very breezy on the coast.

Re: winter feedI think the most important thing is that they have access to food before they go to bed, so that they have a full crop. It's probably the action of digesting that helps keep them warm. Having said that, I've also heard that corn helps keep them warm, but I imagine it's the digestive process in that ...
Re: Cleaning Feeders/DrinkersI use pottery dog dishes for my flock's water and I've only ever wiped them clean, rinsed with fresh water and then filled them up. In the 5 years I've had chickens, this routine has never affected their health.
