Re: Repairing/replacing pond liner in summer?

Thanks, Kitla. There isn't any of the original water left, due to the top-ups. I've decided the only thing we can do is just get on with it and decide on a day to do it, we need to buy a new pond liner first (it was the best quality, heavy duty one, so something has somehow punctured it, I guess) an...

Repairing/replacing pond liner in summer?

Our pond has developed a bad, bad leak. Filling it up every night isn't enough, and anyway that won't do it any good. The trouble is, how do we fix it without losing all the wildlife? Sadly we have no frogspawn this year so at least there won't be any tadpoles (no idea why this is), but there are th...

Re: Friday eclipse

I think there will be a bit more cover this time - depending where you are, of course. We were on holiday in the Forest of Dean last time and it was quite cloudy, but it went cold and very dull and the birds stopped singing. It makes me feel a little sad, because last time, the children were small a...

Friday eclipse

Sadly I'll be at work when this happens - and you can't see the sun from where I work so we won't be able to observe it at all. Will the chickens go to bed? I'm always intrigued by the way they put themselves to bed as soon as the light begins to fail, yet they will come out in the morning even thou...

Re: Tatting

So awful that the books that are not sold, go into landfill. Trouble is that at only 20p, I buy and look at and then don't want to keep some, so as I can't bin them must find a way of passing them on. If it stops raining I'll put them in a box at my front gateway. I'm sure the cookery books will go...

Re: Flu jab tomorrow

One of the nurses in our team has been trained up to give the flu jabs. Despite the fact that she's been a nurse 25 years and has given zillions of injections! The training also involves a refresher course in CPR (which we have to do at regular intervals anyway, so this is an extra one). There is no...

Re: Digital Photography

Oh, I do envy you! I love taking photographs and think I have an eye for composition and so on but even fairly basic functions on my camera are wasted on me, I would absolutely love to learn how to make the most of it. You will have a great time :-D

Sports heart monitor

I've just joined a gym in order to keep up with my twice-weekly spin class. My old class was fine and I'd been going there for three years, but the guy had changed the times and it wasn't really convenient for me. The gym is nearer home and for the same price per month I'm getting more flexibility o...

Re: Running to keep fit? I fell over today!

The only way to avoid this sort of thing is to sit still and do nothing (and then you'll get pressure sores instead). I don't know how 'ancient' you are but I know plenty of people who just fall over without even trying. Your fitness level should at least help you stay out of that category when you ...

Re: RANT ALERT!

Did anybody see that TV article on 'pickleball'? This is a game named after the inventor's dog, Pickle, who used to run away with the ball. It's a combination of tennis, table-tennis and badminton - played by old people . There is a European championship. The couple they were featuring were 81 and 7...

Re: RANT ALERT!

You know what I overheard last night in my spinning class? I overheard the instructor telling somebody about a group called MATURE MOVERS! I mean, for heaven's sake! I would like to think this is a removals firm that specialises in not throwing your ornaments playfully into the back of the removal v...

Totally in awe of your talent and imagination.

Heavy or not, I would go with the glass. It would be such a shame for it to get dusty, and very difficult to clean without possibly damaging it.

Re: RANT ALERT!

Dom, would you like me to mur.der you now while I still have the strength to hurl my zimmer frame across the room? I did in fact get a bit of a discount because of working for the NHS, which I think is the first time in nearly forty years that I have ever had any sort of perk. People think we get su...

RANT ALERT!

Having decided that I'm going to join a gym - only for keeping up with spinning - I went last night to get some info. It was quite hard to convince the young lady that this is all I'm interested in, not the mediaeval torture chamber, not the swimming, not the tai chi; she showed me round and then li...
