Re: URGENT PLEASE HELP!!!Just catching up on posts and saw this. So sorry about your hen, as others have said it does happen, doesn't make it any easier though. I have just lost one of my rescue hens who I have had for about 8 mths, suddenly went downhill. I kept her warm and quiet in a cat carrier, did put her out in the s...
Re: The Edible Garden Show 2015Hi
I got a ticket for my birthday from a friend, so we will be there on 20th. Planning on driving to Oakwood then getting the tube to Wood Green. Not sure I want to drive there. Looking forward to it
Re: New rescuesThank you all for the advice, I can't split the run so am letting the old chooks have the run of the garden and trying to keep the rescues in the run for some peace. Have also excluded the bully for a while tonight and relations are improving. But now I can't get the rescues into the coop, they are ...
New rescuesSadly Rosie and Dora the Explorer are no more . But we have rehomed a few rescues this weekend. They are the sadest, sorryiest, baldest and frightened chooks I have ever seen. Even the feathers they do have are threadbare. But they will soon grown, unfortunately I don't have two coops and runs, not ...
Re: Do ex caged hens always eat layed mash rather than pelleThink I started with a mix of both as I already had chooks who were on the pellets. I made a mash with pellets and veg. But to be honest they wanted what the others were having. Hope it goes well and you have lots of eggs

Re: Devastated by fox attack- during the day!Aww really sorry to hear this Betty. We all know its a risk but still devastating. Must admit because I live in a town and haven't see a fox I am a little blasé about them being our in the run. But I do shut them in at night. xxxx
Re: Rats tunnelling in the compost binThank everyone for the great advice. I did laugh at the hosepipe suggestion, because I can see the entrance to the tunnel and I have poured loads of water down it and soaked the bin, in fact the lid is permanently off I wouldn't go down the poison route, as you say Richard too many risks. Looks like...
Re: Advice on the ideal chicken runChicken drumstick and Karen E - are your runs paved or do you put the woodchip/leaves on the soil. Need to look at the best option with limited funds - don't think a walk in run is feasible at the moment. So will need to be posts and wire of some sort - subject to another pair of hands
Re: Rats tunnelling in the compost binThanks all. I did have wire under it - but removed it cos I kept catching the fork in it . I have turned it, but I think the rat run is under it. Don't want to use poison because of the dog and birds. Glad I'm not the only one. Seriously thinking of getting rid of the bin, but might move it somewher...
Rats tunnelling in the compost binHas anyone else had a problem with rats tunnelling in their compost bins? When I moved to this house 6 years ago there was a rat run across all the gardens, so the nice Pest man paid a visit and all was fine. I have noticed that something is tunnelling up through the compost bin and the dog is sudde...
Re: Advice on the ideal chicken runThanks for all the brilliant advice and ideas. Had a look at the run this morning and your are all right - covered is going to be best and as for plants well the Fatsia that I planted is no more - which is a shame as I have an established one in the garden and they love it. So, wood chip, grass cutt...
Re: Advice on the ideal chicken runThanks Richard
Advice on the ideal chicken runHi all Sorry if this seems a back to front question - as I already have the chooks. I have a narrow garden, about 70ft. Its north facing so damp, no sun till April. The chooks wrecked the grass within weeks, which is fine. But I'm concerned that there is not enough vegetation in their run, there are...
Re: rethinking our set upWow thanks jackian for the link. Makes my little set up look poor. But some brilliant ideas for a runs and house. Want to reorganise mine this year, so can take some inspiration
