Re: How to fox proof a chicken run?

The cheapest slabs are normally the MOT spec ones as used for pavements. Last time i bought them they were around £2 each in a pack of 50. Check out big builders merchants. When we build our runs we sit the panels onto a base timber. If this rots it can be replaced before the rot reaches the panels....

Re: omlet coops

The Pullit door opener from henwise would work, i don't know if they are still available or how reliable they are. Other than that you'd need to create a "porch" to take a more common vertical sliding door and attach that over the existing door.

Re: Electric Fencing / Tape

You'll need more than 1 wire as the fox will need to complete the circuit before it gets a belt.

I'd suggest 1 hot wire along the top of the fence in insulators and then 1 or 2 earthed wires along the outside.

There are restrictions on what you can do next to a public right of way.

I'd say £60-£120/month. Rental refunded against purchase of a house.

Re: Mite Powder Query

It really depends on the ingredients. There are some that may contain pesticides but DE is safe as is the barrier powders.

Re: try before you buy hens

As you asked here are a few of my thoughts: Never assume that because you think something is cheap or expensive that other people will share that view. Either do market research or if it's cheaper just get on with it and see what happens. Convenience is worth a lot of money as is the ability to give...

Re: Hens For Hire

Seems like a good idea to me.
We've provided housing to quite a few schools and this seems a perfect way for them to see if it will work in practise before committing to a larger project.

Re: advise needed please.

I think you should see a change in a few days so i'd treat for a couple of week max and then see if the problem comes back.

Limestone is great but the lack of vitamins can cause calcium to not be absorbed in which case no amount of limestone will solve the problem.

Re: Coop outside the run

Hi. As it happens we had chance to do this yesterday so i took some photos for you. This literally took about 5 minutes and a couple of spare timbers. You'd probably want to add something for them to jump on between the floor and the house. It seems a shame to pay for a large run and then fill a qua...

Re: Coop outside the run

We've made quite a few runs where we raise the chicken house up inside to free up floor space. The easiest way in my opinion is not to try and make a platform but just lift the coop up on a couple of timbers the width of the house. Screw a support either side attached to the inside of the run and th...
