DovesI have recently added doves to our menagerie. the get on really well with the hens. Re: Fumigating the hen houseThanks for that. When I discovered them I thought it was the answer to my prayers. But the red mite wars are raging with everyone I think.
Fumigating the hen houseI wonder if anyone else has had experience of the "chicken home blitz" fumigation product. I bought some and set it alight this morning but it doesn't seem to be smoking and looks like it's gone out. I've tried relighting it but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Is it fumigating or hav...
Re: Feather lossJust on other thing. Do you have an egg withdrawal time with Ivermectin?
Re: Feather lossThanks for that . I really appreciate it.
Can I just buy it on line?
Re: painting inside coopI use water based primer. It has no fumes so you just have to air the house for the drying period (I paint it in the morning and let the girls back in after about 6 hours). It doesn't give you a nice glossy finish but it is easy to apply and fills up those nasty little cracks and it is dead easy to ...
Tell me about frontllne pleaseI've still got a few red mite despite disinfecting, painting the inside of the henhouse and sealing all the cracks with bathroom sealant. I have ordered the fumigation bombs and will use them when they get here but I was interested to read that some of you use frontline. Is it the spot-on that you u...
Feather lossI'm not really sure if my Gertrude has a problem. I've had a bout of leg mite about a year ago and it's one of those things I have managed to control but found it hard to eradicate. Polly then started to go a bit bald on her head and neck but I put this down to a bit of pecking as she's a cheeky lit...
I think I'm into doves!!!I'm thinking of keeping doves.
I've already dot chickens (have had for 7 years now) and now I have a dove cote (long story) Is there anyone else out there that keeps doves or as any experience of same? So thankful for any help. Julia
Re: Hens and Wierd FoodMy hens are just naughty old lushes. They will only eat apples that have fallen of the tree and half fermented. I'm sure Phoebe gets a bit tipsy. Is there an Alcoholics anonymous for chickens?
Re: Bored chickensThanks for all your ideas.
The girls have perked up a bit but want to come out now the snow's gone. I daren't let them out as he fox has been spotted up and down the road. I went out this morning and bought the some noodles and greens. Thought they might rustle up a stirfry.
Re: Bored chickensThanks Steve. I've got a bag of sand so I will put that in the run and I'll hide their meal worms in it.
Good grief, they're worse than children.
Re: Does their comb repairFrom my experience their comb doesn't grow back. My Queenie and Gertrude had a bust-up (usually they are firm friends) and Queenie's comb got torn. The flap bit died away and dropped off and now she only has half a comb
Re: My Girls are odd..Waste no, want not. Have you got anything planned for tea Lizzie?
