Re: Strictly come dancing 27.9.13

I think Abbie had realised just how few people must have phoned in for her. She looked devastated, all red nose and big hicuppy dry sobs. I wondered but assumed that in 2nd spot most people assumed she would be safe. If so then there will be a very different voting pattern this week (she hopes, with...

Re: Strictly come dancing 27.9.13

I almost did when I last posted but decided I can wait :-D

I think I expect Rachel and Dave in the dance off, but with Fiona or possibly Sophie instead of Dave.

But surely Dave must go soon. Or are we (the viewing public) really going to do it this time - popularity over ability?

Re: Strictly come dancing 27.9.13

I suspect Mr Myers will survive this week, maybe next week too. Fiona and Mark will probably go before he does, the popular vote should see him through. But Rachel is consistently off, and Abbie may not get the viewer vote. Sophie EB may have put herself in the running too! But this week was weird, ...

Re: Sausage maker? or attachment?

I saved up and bought the KWood Titanium, our choice of extra included the mincer and sausage maker - I cannot recommend them enough. Manda, it is a joy to use. We both use it 3 or 4 times weekly, most of the attachments get used. But don't do what we did and NOT read the manual I had been hand clea...

Re: 5 eggs today !

So they have had half a tin of beans for a few days, butter beans cos I haven't got any chickpeas in. We miss an egg a couple of days a week now.... though we do have 5 already today. I may have for...

Re: What's for dinner tonight?

A pot of made from scratch chilli, topped with cheese, eaten with tortilla chips. Not exactly diet food, but tastes great.

A will make a stew of some sort tomorrow, beef daube, captain's comfort or something similar!

Re: How to make bread

Instructions on our Kwood are a bit involved, 2 different speeds for specified times. But Dan Leppard and Paul Hollywood say to put the dough hooks on and let it go at its slowest speed for 5 minutes, so we do that and then shape by hand. You can use the machine to knock back the dough too, slowest ...

Re: Winter Home Energy - Tightening up but keeping warm

Mmmmmmmmmmm! Not sure about the get up....

But window boxes sound good... may have a look and make one for the dining room, as it is above the open cellar and gets coldest.

Re: Winter Home Energy - Tightening up but keeping warm

OK, old house, metal windows and no door fits its hole. Open cellar under half of the house. One open fire and oil fired heating. We have thick curtains over every window and door, door sausages, couch blankets, tote socks, multiple thin layers of comfy clothes rather than a bulky jumper, hot water ...

Re: Apple storage ideas.....

Thanks for the thought! http://www.channel4.com/4food/recipes/tv-show-recipes/river-cottage-christmas-2010-recipes/pam-s-apple-and-pear-fruit-cheese-recipe I have Pam the Jam's book and this is the very simple recipe I used, no pears though. We made loads and froze it as I couldn't be bothered with ...

Re: winter feed

Unless everything is frozen and my conscience starts to scream, nothing.

They get corn all year round, or mealworms, depending on what I saw/was cheap.

I am a mean chicken keeper!

Re: Apple storage ideas.....

Thanks for all the advice. I now have a new load ready to dip in lemon juice and freeze. Another load to be dipped in sugar and cinnamon and I will be making apple cheese this weekend - I had forgotten how much we liked it last year. Loads of apples stull left, so more are being sorted all the time....

Re: Apple storage ideas.....

Oh we definitely have too many to deal with. I am wrapping the perfectest of the perfect ones. I'll get bored with it very soon! I might have a look in supermarkets for the apple boxes with dividers in instead. The chickens like them. We leave loads for the birds. Even the ones I freeze are properly...
