Re: Clucky Carol's Frugal Diary

Well, what a brilliant hour's work! I thought I only had a couple of parsnips as they didn't appear to be doing too well, but I have harvested a good thirty and have a great vat of spiced parsnip soup on the go. The rest are drying off, but slightly worried about storage ... Any advice very welcome!...

Will put chard on the list, sounds great - just dug over my first raised bed, we have very heavy clay soil, so staying off as I have raised beds, but planning my programme of planting, so definitely in, thank you.

Mmmm poached egg on spinach ... Breakfast here I come. {rofwl} xxx

Clucky Carol's Frugal Diary

... I have done it! Now, I don't know how long this diary will last, but I am going to swop my spending with ... A random act of kindness - the aim is to do one (at least) random act a week, and so I thought if I logged them here then it would help me keep the focus, and record it. So, here I go for...

Re: Best tip of 2013 for 2014?

Thanks Jackian, am just doing my planting ideas for this year, how much did you plant? Mine love sweet corn, but because of the water issues on Exmoor last year ours wasn't very successful! Difficult to remember the dry Summer now, we are not on mains water but have a well that was dry! Now we have ...

Re: Best tip of 2013 for 2014?

Hi All, enjoying reading all the ideas ... Thank you. I am trying to not throw any food away this year, and so far doing pretty well. It is really making a difference to my buying habits as I am using up the freezer contents and trying to ensure I do use all the "oddsies" that get left in ...

Re: Did anyone sow Vegetables last Autumn?

Hi All / Richard, I sewed a few seeds last year, but nothing came on in the vegetable patch, but the sweet peas were fantastic ... Came on really early, and lasted for an amazing length of time - I planted them in the veggie patches but they did so well they took over one plot entirely! I do want to...

Hi Richard, I was thinking about you today. I wanted to say thank you for enriching my life, and many others, through the website. I have really enjoyed, and benefitted from, the friendly advice and helpful hints and tips. Our move to Exmoor was a dream, and having chickens and starting my veggie pa...

Re: Time to study the seed catalogues

Hi Michael, I am starting to grow more, but it happens more from luck than planning, and one of my resolutions this year is to plan my crops better ... What would be your top tips? I know my Ph 6.5 and I know what I like to eat - pretty much anything, but any other hints? Enjoy the seed catalogues t...

Re: Celeriac

Hi Davina, I have never had success with celeriac, but am planning to try again next year so the hints from Lancashire lass are really welcome. I have a lovely recipe for a veggie pie which uses celeriac and I love it ... So here's hoping!
Look forward to hearing more.

Re: Best tip of 2013 for 2014?

Keep them coming team DL, inspiring, I would never have thought about the heated stone ... Brilliant .... And the oil tip, Hubby very keen to explore that, we do use a comparison website. I definitely want to use all my odds and ends and freeze properly, and I bartered with my courgette glut and sw...
