Re: My attempt to keep chickens.

Hi Bob - Hope your flock and run were still there when you got home. I was at work wondering just the same. Luckily only a small piece of the run roof ripped off (could have been worse). Everyone was OK. Going to give the run a bit of an overhaul when we are off on holiday in May so a new roof will ...

Re: Ambers diary.

Hi Amber- I think this whole Avian flu thing is confusing. As far as I am aware, I am not in a controlled area so I am hoping for freedom for the girls soon. To be fair, they have been very good and I think they have got used to being in their run now (don't get shouted at half as much as I used to!...

Re: Louise's Chicken Diary

Hi Karen and Minx and everyone. The girls are doing fine, thank you. Mary has had a bit of a moult but this seems to have stopped now. She has not laid for about 2 months now, but is fine in herself, since her little blip (touch wood). They have all been in their enclosure dust bathing and eating tr...

Re: The Dinosaurs in my Back Garden

Enjoyed reading your diary very much. As you have found out it really seems to be an all consuming passion this chicken keeping lark. Always so much to learn and that is why it is so lovely to share other people's experiences on this forum. I think we are all addicted to these little dinosaurs. The ...

Re: karen's chicken diary

Marley is gorgeous, lovely photo's. She will get there in the end, it all just takes time. She's a lucky girl now to have a nice new forever home and I can't see her being a problem around the girls. We have 3 cats and they don't bother in the least. In fact they are used to all the neighbourhood ca...

Re: Hybrid hens vs bantams

I have never kept pure breeds of any kind, always hybrids. I just love the hybrids for their lovely personalities and characters. I have thought about pure breeds when I have lost girls due to laying issues (as this seems to be quite common in the hybrids), but I just couldn't resist these gorgeous ...

Oh Bob - I hate hearing stories like that - it's awful. I think mankind has a lot to answer for. Glad all is well with your flock.
