Rolypoly's bright green poop

Hi, I had no idea one chicken could cause so much worry! Dear Rolypoly wouldnt get out of bed this morning, eventually my son brought her in (she usually comes indoors for breakfast) & said she'd done a green poo. I didnt take much notice, then she had a bit of diarrhea & seemed a bit down, ...

Re: Turkey's as pets

I would really appreciate any more input on this thread. We're moving this summer; ironically to an ex-battery farm, we'll have a bit more land, & to soften the blow of leaving their friends behind, we told the boys we could have more animals. My eldest is determined to get a couple of pet turke...

Re: orpington cockerel looking for new home

Hmmm.. not happy about that place any more, I've "heard" things that bother me. I dont want to spread rumours that may not be true, has anyone had dealings with them? We've stepped up the search locally & found 2 smashing homes...if I was 2 weeks earlier! Also found a more local, counc...

Re: orpington cockerel looking for new home

With a heavy heart I'm taking him to Northwood Farm near Nuneaton this weekend {cry}
They rehome unwanted cockerels & think they'll be able to find a breeder to take him.
I hope its someone nice!

Re: orpington cockerel looking for new home

Hi I'm stepping up the urgency of rehoming Bubbles, not due to the crowing, but because his attentions to Rolypoly are getting excessive & I'm getting afraid for her, because of her health problems. Having only 2 hens to a cockerel is not ideal, Roly just doesnt get a break & we have to keep...

Re: Chicken asleep on its side?

I can see why you love to have her indoors, your dog is very tolerant. Since Rolypoly was indoors while she was poorly, she often pops in to spend time in the kitchen, our dog puts up with it but wont let Roly too close to her bed! I sometimes find Roly avoiding the others when the cockerel has been...

Re: rolypoly's problem relationship

I'm sure its a dominance thing, she's always been quite feisty, she looks him straight in the eye with her head up & neck feathers puffed in a "dont you speak to me like that!" way, & he really gets the hump about it. Whereas Pickle more of a mellow "whatever" sort of hen...

rolypoly's problem relationship

Hi, Dear Rolypoly is having unwelcome attention from Bubbles the cockerel. Pickles will submit to him without a fuss & gets treated gently, never gets told off at feeding time. But poor Rolypoly doesnt want to know (p'raps because she's not laying yet) & he has started trying to force her, q...

Re: Where do you shop?

My concience has been playing up lately about buying meat at Tesco & Sainsbury, especially pork. Reading just a bit of this has convinced me to get it from Waitrose from now on.
