Re: happy christmas and a happy new year all!Happy Christmas and New Year to you all and thank you all for being there.
Re: What are your hens getting for Christmas?!?I bought live yogurt which I give every couple of weeks and they go crazy for it. They get all over themselves then peck it off each other. You can see them wishing that they had a tounge to slurp it up.
Re: Warning about leg rings!!!!!!!The one I used was the clip one and the only problem I had was when a twig got caught in it but despite that with more experience now, I will never use them again.
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)Aw thank you Jackie!

Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)Thank you so much everyone.
Re: Warning about leg rings!!!!!!!I forgot to add, back when I first had the chickens, I had three dominiques but Poppy turned out to be a cockerel and I took him back to the farm and bought Treacle and Bluebell back with me. One morning I went out to the chickens and Poppy had a twig trapped in the leg ring. Poppy was trying to pec...
Re: Warning about leg rings!!!!!!!I had a leg ring on Pepper because with Pepper and Dotty both being dominiques I thought that I might not be able to tell them apart. This post made me check her right away and she is absolutely fine but I decided to take the ring off anyway just to be on the safe side. After having the girls for si...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)A quick update, Pepper laid her first egg yesterday and we ate it this morning. It tasted normal, hurrah! Pepper and Bluebell sat in the nest box together, I took photos and put them on my blog (it was so sweet). When I went back a little later their eggs were side by side in the nest box. Pepper's ...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)Yesterday both me and my husband had our eggs again for breakfast (one was Treacle's, one was Bluebell's) and I thought they tasted normal but by husband thought there was just a slight trace of the musty taste. Maybe he had Bluebell's. They were fine with salt and pepper on though and I am happy wi...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)This morning for breakfast we both (my husband and I) had a poached egg, toasted sandwich with Treacle's egg from yesterday and Bluebell's egg laid before first light today. This is the first egg my husband has eaten from our chickens. There is still a very slight musty taste to them when tasted on ...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)Urban chicks, no future chicken of mine is ever going to be called jasmine!! Ihatejacknjills, I agree with your take on rubber ducking and yes I do plan on you eating our eggs for breakfast at Christmas. I am now confident that they will be lovely by then. bmpsands, I agree that nothing can be as fr...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)At lunch time today we tasted Bluebell's egg laid yesterday and Treacle's egg laid today. They were almost normal, just a slight hint left now. Treacle's was the better of the two which makes sense as it was laid later and she stopped eating the jasmine a bit before Bluebell. Anyway the taste was so...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)I did say to Richard that if we hadn't eventually decided to remove the jasmine (which I think we would have at some stage) the eggs may have got better once they had stripped it all and no longer had any leaves to eat. But then it may have grown back in spring and the problem come back. Even so som...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)We are on our way to it at last. This morning we tried both Treacle's and Bluebell's eggs both laid yesterday (side by side in the nest box, So sweet! Treacle's was still warm and Bluebells cool) and their was a really noticeable improvement. They tasted almost normal so we feel a few more days and ...
Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)I have just tasted Bluebell's egg from yesterday and it really was less strong, almost passable. I feel really encouraged by this. To me this means it was the jasmine and just takes a while to get through their system. It was so much better, almost normal that I think by the weekend we may have some...
