Re: Open top run getting abit smelly

Our Walk-in-Run is covered and we have wood chip on the floor. To stop the woodchip coming out through the wire, we have used lengths of decking timber from q and b.

My OH gets up around 6 am and the girls always leap up at the coop window to be let out. They coop is an ex childrens playhouse in a large Walk-in-Run 6ft high and the roof is covered in wire and corragated plastic roofing. He then gives the girls their fresh water. I am up and out feeding them and ...

Re: Clara over rainbow bridge.

The general person who never had chickens never truely understand how they can touch our hearts on so many levels. As their custodians and helpers we watch their daily triumphs. And the extreamly hard start so many have on this earth is made better by the love and care that is given to them. Clara w...

Re: DIY automatic coop door opener

My OH had a think and this might be possible .
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LandStar-LS1024 ... =1-1-fkmr2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It can be linked to a solar cell and battery. Instead of our option of connecting to the mains.

Re: Chicken Keepers Fashion

In the week my OH gets the girls up. He's usually dressed ready for work so it's a shirt and tie. Weekend it's my turn and I sport a very fetching number. White and mint green fluffy dressing gown, scarf, crocks or green wellies depending on the weather. thick wooley coat, disposable latex gloves an...

Re: DIY automatic coop door opener

My Hubbie got up at 6am to check if the door had worked and sucsess. The girls were a little confused as to why the door had opened without anyone there, and had stayed in the coop until my oh went into the run to check the door. :-D

Re: DIY automatic coop door opener

I have it pluged into a timer so it will open tomorrow morning and then there is a switch on the side that we use to close the door on an evening. We went for a timer instead of a light scensor because our neighbour has a very strong light that lights up the whole of our garden as well. Didn't want ...

DIY automatic coop door opener

We were looking at the prices of the automatic door openers for our chicken coop. And to be honest they were really out of our price range. So my husband came up with a home made version. We had the scrap wood from an old chest of drawers, a electric screwdriver, cotton reel, a mains powered timer a...
