Re: Jacket potatoes

What's the point in a jacket potato if you don't eat the jacket!
I miss living at home and having jacket potatoes cooked in the rayburn )eat(

Re: Chicks eating bedding?

eek!! I presume a little sand would just act as grit, but I can't see that eating such large amounts can be good for them. I've never had tiny chicks before, so no help I'm afraid - hopefully someone will have a bright idea.

Re: Our synthetic grass

I think Eck built a frame so that he could make the lawn flat and level, because it was lumpy-bumpy before

Re: Tiny egg

I've got one that has regular spells of laying wind eggs for a few days too, never any problems though, just back to normal after a while.

Re: The Village

I've just caught up with the last episode and have been weeping off and on throughout. Beautifully done I thought, very thought provoking, and stayed true to itself right to the end.
I shall await the next series with interest.

Re: red mite?

Using diatomaceous earth in the coop, bedding and any dust baths, and dusting the hens with it will help as well.

Re: LBF's 2013 Diary

Watercress has appeared in the last couple of days, so no free ranging for the chickens until it's big enough to withstand a bit of pecking. Borlotti beans are coming on nicely - I love watching beans grow, the one on the left wasn't showing at all last night, but by morning was properly through. ht...

Re: Bedding question

That's what I wondered. The feed store man will think I'm bonkers next time when I ask to go out the back and try to lift everything I think what I really need to do, is to find a better place to buy from, but I'm hoping the old place will come through with their plans to do a pre-ordering system fo...

I melt the holes in mine, I have a special screwdriver that I use for the purpose, and the gas hob. I also use it for the bottoms of milk bottles & mushroom boxes.

Bedding question

Are things like hemcore / auboise lighter (in weight) than the wood shavings I'm currently using? dh is still out of action at the moment, and I can't lift a block of wood shavings on my own. So far, this has been ok, because the lovely man from the feed store delivers & stacks it in the garage ...

I love those big plastic tubs like your pink one - I have sweet potatoes in some at the moment & am using the other to cart stuff back and forth from the vegetable plot.
