Re: Stef's Frugal 14

I had a rummage through the freezer (I remembered, once a month have a rummage) and listed all the bots and bobses hiding in there. I had a look in the hutch and the fridge too, all sorts of things lurk in there. I had found sheets of lasagne were really close to their use by, so I had bought 4 boxe...

Re: Very wet ground

Mine just have to put up with it. They have turned the run into a scale model of the Somme!

They survive, even the one with the baldy bum :-D

Re: How's Egg Laying going with you all ?

We miss an egg every now and then, but we have had 4 egg days once in a while too!

From 3 hybrids bought in spring. I must remember to take the regular dozen into work or we will be drowning in eggs again!

Re: Stef's Frugal 14

So, I took the 30 mile detour for my haircut, madness. Last night the chicken water feeder magically broke in half, so yet another detour is required (not quite as far this time). The upside is I have ordered one magazine, 52% saving, and discarded the other. I have decided Aldee's is no good, we pr...

Re: Bread baking

If you can't turn your fan oven off the grill is usually a second oven, no fan.

Too me ages to remember that with ours :-D

And I need an oven thermometer, all my cakes came out burned..... I have no idea why other than the temp is doing its own thing!

Re: Positive about sorting my weight this time...

Hurrah! T'is 12th night. Last of the cheese has got to be eaten and everything else is in the freezer ready to be ignored for a few weeks. No more feasting or festivities.

Pass me the lettuce :-D

Re: Stef's Frugal 14

Thanks As soon as the target town is accessible, i.e. there is no water between here and there and the Abbey car park is not flooded, we will start house viewings. We need to know whether the houses are too small, cramped, lacking in parking spaces etc. At the moment we just have a sort of idea that...

Re: Stef's Frugal 14

Right. So what am I aiming for? Well, the landlord's agent just put the rent up (OMG!!!!). So we really do have to start thinking about it - buy somewhere smaller, lose the chickens , lose the relaxed, stress free lifestyle or plug away at saving and accept the situation? He may have just quit smoki...

Re: LL's Frugal 2014

At least you have a very specific date to aim for. That should make all the maths much easier to get your head round. I can lose hours working out all sorts of variations on what should be a simple calculation.

Good luck :-D

Stef's Frugal 14

Thanks Richard. This is just what I need to help me think out loud. I have already made the start. I am amalgamating my life into one doable lump. So my weight loss has lead to my Charity Shop Challenge. My inability to love my job has pushed me to actively look for an escape route. Both the Charity...

Re: Bread baking

Exactly what June said, including the Kenwood Do NOT try the HFW River Cottage bread book, it is very confusing. Do consider a read of Mr Hollywood's books on breads, he uses a lot of salt but they are written clearly. Do consider a read of Dan Lepard's artisan bread book, a different take on making...

Re: CELEBRITY MASTERMIND

Does anyone play them like we do? In Mastermind if you answer one of their specialist questions that they get wrong, you have beaten them. Also counts if you get 3 of the general knowledge questions that a contestant gets wrong. In University challenge it is much the same: 1 starter question or any ...

Re: Reducing Chicken boredom

We have just given up and accepted the bare bums. We keep an eye on the two that are being scalped and will be sure to cover any scabby bits. So far we have tried hanging things, sudocreme, vaseline, cider vinegar, poultry spice, garlic, extra protein and pointing and laughing at the culprit as she ...

Re: Oh, yes!

The roads round here are regularly invaded by chicken kind. Makes a difference from the usual pheasants and rabbits. Then again the Jacob sheep can be a bit intimidating :-D
