Re: My oldest chookAwww.. That's a good age, I'd leave her where she's content and amongst her flock. No need to advise you at all is there Hun ? Just a big hug coming your way for you both x
Re: Chickens and other wildlife. Hi all, how do you find the chickens with the pond, do you worry he chickens may fall into it, I have a small nature pond in the centre of my front garden, about 3ft by 2ft and 18 inch deep. Hoping I do not need to remove pond. If it's a nature pond and has gently sloping 'non slippy' edges so that...
Re: Chickens and other wildlife. If it's a nature pond and has gently sloping 'non slippy' edges so that hedgehogs and birds can drink and get out if necessary , the chickens should be ok. Chickens feathers aren't particularly waterproof - as you'll see when you have a load of bedraggled looking ladies after they've been out in the...
Re: My new bluebells and rirHiya and welcome ... Keeping chickens is one long learning curve ! I've got to agree with mad chick on her points. I clipped my ducks wings and within days a fox had two of them, they didn't have the chance of escape. I know youre keeping chickens, but as you've found out they CAN fly when they want...
Re: Buying out of date foodThanks for that - I know most of it is just plain common sense & depends on how it was / is stored , it was the cornflakes that actually made me ask in the first place but you're so right, we waste so much needlessly. Have you gone into 'power usage' in any depth at all? Since I've been living a...

Re: Isnt this just wrong? If there's one sound I absolutely hate its that of a chainsaw because it usually indicates trees being felled.. I know that sometimes its necessary, but it just sends shivers up my spine This 'man' has caused damage he simple can not put right. He cant just 'replant' an ancient woodland. I hope he's...

Re: The first slow worm in years!Oh a spent many a 'happy' hour chasing my chickens around our garden trying to rescue slow worms from their beaks!!!
We had quite a few of them in our garden (slow worms & chooks) x
Re: Our Hen AdventureHiya, just check & double check your coop and run for 'fox safety' ... Think like a fox - clever, determine and very agile! I don't know what type of coop you have but check whether any of the boards underneath are loose too (foxes will get in if they can). If you've seen a fox about, he will be...
Re: How do I feed a cockerel?Oh lucky you being able to keep a cockerel I would have loved to have been able to, sadly I think our neighbours would have exploded lol..
Re: Red Mite strikes!Oh the dreaded red mite lol
I'd agree with kitla on this regarding the dog, but I'd be more concerned about your daughter in laws chickens. Red mite in those numbers can harm the chooks and as you know need to be eradicated (if possible).. Time to bring on the sprays & powders!!
Re: Advice pleaseIt sounds as though she is simply at the very bottom of the pecking order , you say that you have several feeders already, are they in view of each other? I found a lot of this kind of problem could be sorted out by creating hidden areas within the run, blocking some feeders from the line of sight &...
