It would make sense to have someone show you if at all possible.

Re: What do you think to this coop?

The door might have a vent in it but it does nothing to aid ventilation. Ventilation occurs due to convection currents in the house. Warm air rises and goes out the top drawing fresh air in at the bottom. On that house, even it there were vent holes at the bottom (no mention of them) there would onl...

Re: Ex batts not collected

And how many times have I hear " I need a chicken house today because I'm collecting my hens in 2 days time" If they have any patience I do try and impress on them that a little planning would be useful. If they have enough time to listen }hairout{

Re: Beginner has a question :)

if the perimeter is protected so a fox can't dig next to the run then it's probably ok. We use 12" wide mesh laid on the surface and that works ok.

they need a flat surface to rest there breast bone on so anything wide enough that their feet look comfy should be ok. we use 63 x 38 cls.

Re: Taking the plunge with fertile eggs!

You will be fighting nature a bit. Eggs tend to become less fertile as the weather cools, if it gets too cool she may decide not to sit any longer and you'll be hatching chicks mid October when we have a cold snap due at the beginning of November. Personally, unless you are set up with an incubator ...

Re: Feeding question

it might depend on the ratios. Weatabix is too salty for babies to eat so maybe not good for chicken in any quantity.

Re: How many hens can I have?

big enough for 6

I tend to use them them in and let them get on with it. They will fight for a while but as long as it doesn't get out of hand the soon you let them get on with it the better,.

Re: auto door openers?

Mine was about £128 but I really do think it's been worth every penny. For the first year it worked perfectly, but at the moment it doesn't close fully down at night. That doesn't much matter as I always check the minute I get home after dark and I just finish it off closing (but if anyone knows wh...

Re: Run size

Yes, people often don't spend enough time (or any) planning and researching first.

Like the person who phoned me on Sunday that had to buy one today as the chicken were arriving on Tuesday.

Re: New to chickens -coop advice please!

Thanks, I can't find the sticky about the coops, any chance of a link? That is interesting about the run, I thought that a tall one might be a bit silly if I'm not having loads of chickens, I had imagined having a smaller one which I could move around but a bigger one might be better. I'm used to c...
