Re: Time to study the seed catalogues

Oooooooooooooooh! Me me me.... must go back through the seed packets and start planning properly!

Less planted, more care taken. That's my motto for this year - that and keep my diary properly :-D

Re: How damaging has Xmas been to you?

About 3 or 4 lbs here too. So I am fairly happy with myself. We have another few days of different eating, a four bird roast and trimmings, so just a Sunday roast really, nothing frightening there. I think we have very little left, some pud, pannettone and we have just realised we bought some packet...

Re: Stephen King at his best..........

Thanks, I shall make an effort to acquire it, maybe with my new library card (my first Frugality for 2014).

I didn't know he had a son, let alone that he writes! Joe Hill is on the list :-D

Re: Has anyone a SAD Lamp ?

I'll check with my GP - I am anaemic and there is a link to low vitamin D levels. I suspect he'll want to take another armful of blood, it's been a couple of years since the last one!

Re: Best tip of 2013 for 2014?

I'm stretching Frugal Feb throughout the year. I will save more than we spend, I will, I will.

So I am reading back through the Frugal Diaries and taking notes :-D

1. White board by freezer: what went in?

But I suspect I'll do as Perchy does and freeze my fingers once a month :?

Re: Strictly come dancing 27.9.13

As I may have said before, as long as The Grin didn't win I would be happy. But the stand out bit for me was watching Artem just dance. He let himself show off in that show dance, he looked so smooth. I haven't enjoyed dance on telly since I was totally entranced by Gene Kelly in An American in Pari...

Re: Gas and Electric tariffs

Insult to injury and salt to a wound..... they have just corrected themselves.... not £52 but £55 per month! But when I divide their estimate of our yearly usage, based on actual readings, I get £46 per month!!! Mmmmm! What will I spend the refund on? I shall make a point of asking for it, but will ...

Good info Mo. You are right, tins only! But I have an in I have run a couple of baking classes with some single dads and will be giving them the cakes. If I am lucky and get an overnight borrow of a catering unit I'll invite them to do the making too! I have my eye on next Monday..... I think I can ...

Re: Fearn Britton meets Ken Dodd

Well, there was that tax thing! I have to admit some bias here as his brother, Bill, used to deliver my Nana's coal and later we got to tease friends in Cambridgeshire about the reality of the Jam Butty Mines. After all, we could prove Knotty Ash is a real place..... I think Steven Twigg (West Derby...

Yes! Our electricity went from £30 to £52... just the 2 of us and the heating is oil fired. So I have no idea how they worked that one out... I will be meter reading regularly and we will be thinking about it all the time now!

Re: Christmas frugality ??

Oh! My not so near neighbour has just delivered a box of cupboard stuff. They are off to France, Spain and Australia for a couple of months, visiting their kids. I hadn't realised that they haven't seen one of them for about 5 years and have grandchild to meet. He takes stuff from my garden gate stu...

Crikey, they're really nice. Even I may have picked them up.... but may not have had the heart to post them! Add to that the whole idea of supporting a cottage industry and such a tradition and you must feel all warm. I did lie by the way! We also bought a little jar of Tewkesbury mustard, made abou...

Re: Christmas frugality ??

Well that was good. We splurged, I tell ya! We splurged. 3 jars we bought.... tutti frutti jam, great, apricotty but nicer, lemon and lime curd and a spiced plum relish. Very nice. Then to the cookshop and we got both knife and sharpener, saw a few more things but resisted, after all the kitchen is ...
