It can last up to several years dependant on the style.
I have a mild and a pale ale on the go.
It'll last me a while. I keg it.

I'm biased but I'll put it up against anything from a hand pump in a pub. It's in a different league to the stuff from the cans and taps.

I have 80 pints fermenting away at present.
The way I do it needs some equipment making and some knowledge.
You can make good beer from a tin though.

I have a padlock on my coop door. When it' on It's impossible for the door to be shut.

Maybe that is an option.

It is better (so I've read) for them to roost, feet and breast bone problem apparently. I also means the poop is all in on nice line to clean out in the morning.
