Re: Cheap mesh or something similar?

I have heard that chicken wire is for keeping chickens in, not foxes out. A ferret/polecat can get through chicken wire as can a rat. They can 'worry' a hole in the mesh and slip through.
Weld mesh is more expensive, but it is a lot more substantial.
The lower the gauge number, the stronger it is.

Re: Cheap mesh or something similar?

HillsofDevon are a good company to deal with. They were quick to deliver and the cheapest prices. They do sell on ebay too, so maybe you could find a smaller amount there. The usual DiY shops will sell chicken wire and mesh, but the prices are a bit  Ask on Freecycle/freegle, sometimes t...

Re: How much did you pay for your chickens?

I had no idea of chicken breeds when I got mine, as far as I knew I assumed I was going to get some brown chickens :) Then I saw Mum and Dad and was well impressed :) I guess I was lucky, having a neighbour who knew someone who'd hatched some chickes and needed to rehome some. Think they are hybrids...

Re: How much did you pay for your chickens?

When I got my girls (@ 6 weeks old, Welsummers) I was told a fiver each or three for a tenner.
A couple of places round here charge around £16 for Point-of-Lay.

Re: Bought a Mattock today

We bought one to help dig out some trunks.
At first look we thought we had bought the wrong tool.... how wrong we were :)

Hubby spent a lot of time down a hole with a mattock :) I had the trowel.
Our garden is now tree and hedgeless.

Re: I said "go to bed" not "roost on my head"

This is Hubs, not long after we first got the girls. Always say he's got an eye for the birds!! :P http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/oo53/ferretmonsters/chickens/100_0682.jpg Just wish there'd been a camera around when I was out in the run like a scarecrow with one on the shoulder and one on each a...

Re: sprouts

This is the first year I have grown any veg and have sprouts in pots. The plant is around 18 inches or so tall. At the base of each leaf, there is a little bud type thing. I am presuming it is a sprout growing. Soooooooo....... In my guess..... The sprouts will grow, the leaves will die back and I w...

Re: Just sit and watch the Chickens

I have found that sitting in the run with the cheepers >ch< is good for the heart and the head :)

Being mugged for dandelion leaves can be a little hairy and not for the faint of heart though!

Re: Help uploading pics

Can't speak for DTL, but photos take up a lot of server space, so by hosting your pictures on a different website and then posting the links, forums (in general) do not have their server space taken up by photographs.

Re: Chicken house?!

I do have one :) It is my first coop so have nothing to compare it to. I have 3 Welsummers, only 12 weeks old so a bit more growing to do. There is plenty of space in there to add a couple more :) I only have one nest box, another would be handy if I added to the run. It is a little rough but is cer...

Re: Help uploading pics

An easy way to post pictures is to upload them to photobucket ( http://photobucket.com/ )
Then you can copy and paste the link to the photos in the threads.
